R. DUMESNIL. BARREL STAND.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 22, 1906.

ROBERT DUMESNllL, OF BROUSSARD, LOUISIANA.
BARREL-STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 5, 1909.
Application filed September 22, 1906. Serial No. 335,807.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT DUMESNIL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Broussard, parish of Lafayette, and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Barrel-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to barrel stands, and more particularly to swinging stands, adapted to be used in stores, the object of which being to'provide a stand for a barrel so that the barrel can be swung under and out from under the counter, as desired.
Another object of my invention is to provide the stand with an insect guard so that the barrel will be protected from all kinds of insects.
Another object of my invention is to provide the platform supporting the barrel of such a size that it will fit snugly upon the bottom of the barrel and securely hold the barrel in place.
lVith these objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a counter showing my barrel stand in use. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the barrel stand. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the stand. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the barrel supporting platform.
Referring to the drawing A indicates the base provided with feet A having openings formed therein, through which screws are adapted to pass and secure the same to the floor. A flange A extends upwardly and outwardly from the base above the feet forming a cup which is adapted to be filled with oil or water to prevent insects from crawling up the same.
The upper end of the base is reduced forming an upwardly extending pin A over which the socket of the head B, is adapted to fit which is provided with an outwardly extending tapering arm B, carrying a round platform 13 over which the bottom of a barrel is adapted to fit. The platform is of such a size as to fit snugly in an ordinary barrel so that the barrel will be securely held therein, with the use of any fastening means, such as screws.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have provided a very novel barrel stand, which can be easily and quickly swung into the position desired, and one which is protected from insects.
lVith a heavy barrel no fastening means are needed, but for a light, or nearly empty barrel screws may be inserted in the base and the bottom of the barrel firmly secured.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A barrel stand comprising a circular base having a reduced upper end and outwardly projecting feet, a flange surroiuiding the base forming a cup, a socket revolubly mounted on the reduced end of said base having an outwardly extending arm, and a circular platform carried by said arm in a plane above the end of said pin adapted to fit within the head of a barrel.
ROBERT DUMESNIL. lVitnesses:
J. GILBERT ST. JULLEN, F. K. HOPKINS.
