Description

To all whom 1' t may concern;
UNITED STATES PATENT oFEioE.
WILLIAM J. BOEMPER, OF RUTHERFORD, XBW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HIMSELF, AND ONE-HALF TO HARRY A. MUEOKE, OF NEW YORK, X. Y.
ATTACHMENT FOR SAFETY-FUSES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 24, 1908.
Application led October 4, 1907. Serial No. $95,840.
Be it known that I IVILLI'AM J. BOEMPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rutherford, in the county of 'Bergen vand AState of New Jersey, have` invented an Improvement in Attachments for Safety-Fuses,l
V of which the following lis a speciiication.
Heretofore so far as I am aware, consideiable d iihculty has beeirexperienced yin sepa vrating safety fuses from the' clip terminals in which the saine are connected in a fuse box and other electrical fittings, and this be-y cause of the-nic'ety of the fit between the terminals of the safety fuse devices and the clip terminals in which the same are inserted and also because' of the strength of the spring in clip terminals which has to be overcome in removing the fuse terminals therefrom.
The object of my present invention is to overcome the hereinabove mentioned diiculties by the provisioiilof a device adapted to be attached to a spring clip terminal, a knife-blade terminal or other forni of safety fuse terminal clip and by the use of which the safety fuse can be readily removed from its operative position in theclip terminal.
In carrying'out my invention, I employ I ltwo members pivotally secured together and the said opposing each adapted to be connected to'an opposing part of/the safety fuse terminal clip, and
means by-.which pressure may beemployed and transmitted through said members to to spread the saine in order that the fuse with its terminals may be readily with-v drawn. A y p In the drawing,'I*`igure l is a perspective view illustrating a spring clip terminal with a safety fuse connected therewith and my improved attachment in position thereon. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a knife-blade terminal showing the fuse terminal inserted therein and Fig. 3 is a perspective view o f a modified form of the attachment 'adapted for use upon theterminal shown in Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing and particularlyto Fig. l, a designates a base of any suitable insulating material upon which` a springclip safety fuse terminal b is to be secured by means of a screw or bolt c or otherwise. As s customary, the spring clip'terminal comprisesl oppositely disposed members e adapted t'o vreceive' and. to make electr-ical parts ofthe 'terminal clip,
'spread in order that connection with the end cap or terminal 7' ot the safety fuse device g, and the opposing members d e of the fuse c lip are commonly provided with iii-turned lugs or ears indicated at L h1.
. Now my improved attachment comprises two suitably-curved arms and Z pivotally connected .together/by a screw or pivot lm, and `in its outer edge adjacent to the free end the arnrz' isprovided with an undercut recess indicated at l adapted to receive that portion of the in-turned lug h adjacent to the member. l of the fuse clip, vand similarly the arm `Z is provided with an undercut re-A cess adapted to receive the corresponding lportion of the lughl by means of which the rarms in their pivotally connected relation are both supported upon and secured to these lugs 71, /z-l 'and are readily removable therefrom. I also employ a thumb-piece 01 which as shown in Figwl, is made integral with the arm Z and turned over at right angles thereto adjacentvto tliepoint in which the arm l ispivotally. connected to the arm 2'. It will be apparent however, that this thumb-piece 'n may .without departing from the nature and spirit of my invention, turn outwardly instead of inwardly, or .may if desired be mounted upon the saine pivot by which the arms are connected instead of being made integral with one of the arms. It' will also bel apparent that by applying pressure to the thumb-piece n the same-will betransinitted through thearms z' and Z and cause the opposing parts d readily removed therefrom;
I have shown a clip comprising the oppositely disposed members 4 5 between which the knife-blade terminal 6 of the safety fuse is adaptedto be received, the parts 4 5 being provided with paraliei sided lugs 7 8 respectively, the lends 9 out-turned andadapted to be'inserted in the undercut recess' in the arms of the hereinbefore described. attachment, and as shown in Fig, 3, andas will alsa be apparent, instead of providing the arms i and Z with the undercut recesses, the same maybe provided with. apertures .2 Sadapted to receive lugs such as the lugs 9.and10 and which may .be suitably membersof the safety fuse'terminal clip, the
e of the spring clip to the safety fuse may be and-510 of which, are
comprising two pivotally connected arms',l
each having a recess therein adapted to receive a part of the safety fuse clip, and means through which pressure may be appliedand transmitted to said arms and partsl lof the said clip to spread the same apart.
2. An attachment for safety fuse clips comprising two pivotally connected curved arms, each having an undercut recess in its outer edge adjacent toits free end and by which the same is adapted tobe connected t0 the fuse clip, and means through which pressure may be applied and transmitted to said arms and the latter apart.
3. An attachment for safety fuse clips comprising two pivotally connected curved arms, each having an undercut recess in its outer edge adjacent to its free end and by which thesame is adapted to be connected lto the fuse clip anda thumb-piece integral with one ofthe said arms and by means of which pressure maybe. applied and transmitted through the arm tothe opposing parts of the fuse clip tospread the latter.
