Description

W. G. TAYLOR.
WIRING DEVICE FOR FIREPLACE FRAMES.
v'vnnsssss "ms NORRIS PETERS cm, WASHINGTON, n c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM G. TAYLOR, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO TAYLOR BURNER A: ELECTROPLATING COMPANY, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF PENNSYLVANIA.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 17, 1908.
Application filed August 15, 1905. Serial No. 274,247.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VILLIAM Gr. TAYLOR,
of Pittsburg, Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Virmg Device for F ireplace-F rames, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a broken front elevation of my improved device; Fig. 2 is a section on the line II-II of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the several parts in separated position.
My invention relates to the connecting of wires to fire-place frames, for securing them in place.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, cheap and attractive connection for the frame corner which will also hold the wire by which the frame is secured in place.
In the drawings, 2 represents the upper cross-bar of the frame having the lower broad flange 3 and the upper narrow flange 4:.
5 represents the side member of the frame having the corresponding flanges 6 and 7. The flanges 3 and 6 are cut away to allow the upper part of the bar 5 to lap over the end of the bar 2, these parts being provided with the registering holes 8 and 9. A clip-plate 10 of arrow-shape fits on the back side of the corner, its edges being arranged to roughly fit the flanges 3 and 6 and the outer flanges i and 7. It is also provided with the registering holes 8 and 9. A corner cap 11 is provided, this having preferably the outer flanges 12 and 13 which are wide enough to cover the corner edges. It may also have narrow flanges 14 along the other edges. It is preferably provided with a central hole in registry with the holes 8.
In assembling the parts a screw 15 is extended through the three holes 8 and the hole in the cap 11 and a wire 16 is extended through the three holes 9 in the two parts of the frame and the corner-clip. The front end of this wire is then twisted around the shank of the screw 15 outside or in front of the securing nut 17. The cap 11 is then put in place and an ornamental ball 18 is screwed on to the front screw-threaded end of the screw 15.
The wire extends backwardly from the frame, its rear end being secured within the fire-place in the ordinary manner.
The advantages of my invention result from the cheapness and simplicity of the corner joint and also from the effective hidden connection for the wire.
Variations may be made in the form and arrangement of the parts without departing from my invention.
I claim l. A metal frame having frame members overlapping at the corner, a front corner plate, a fastening piercing the frame members and the corner plate for connecting the same together, and an anchor wire piercing the frame members and secured to the fastening between the frame and the corner plate and hidden thereby, substantially as described.
2. A metal frame having frame members overlapping at the corner, front and rear corner plates, the corner plates and the frame members having a set of registering openings, a threaded fastening passing through said openings, a nut upon the threaded fastening between the frame members and the front corner plate, another nut upon the threaded fastening and bearing against the front of the front corner plate, and an anchor wire piercing the rear corner plate and the frame members and connected with the fastening between the front corner plate and the frame, substantially as de scribed.
3. A metal frame having frame members overlapping at the corner, a front corner plate having an intermediate portion spaced from the frame, and a fastening piercing the overlapped portions of the frame members and the corner plate, the overlapped portions of the frame members having registering openings for the reception of an anchor device, that portion of the fastening which lies between the frame members and the corner plate being adapted for the attachment of an anchor device, substantially as described.
4. A metal frame having frame members overlapping at the corner, front and rear corner plates, the corner plates and the frame members having a set of registering openings, a fastening member passing through said openings, the rear corner plate and the frame members having another set of openlugs, and an anchor wire passing through said other set of openings and secured to the fastening between the frame and the front corner plate, substantially as described.
5. A metal frame having frame members overlapping at the corner, a rear corner plate, said parts having two sets of holes, a front corner plate having a hole registering with one of the sets, a screw extending forwardly through one set of holes, an ornamental knob arranged to be screwed on the front end of the screw in front of the front corner plate 7 and an anchor wire passing through the other set of holes and connected to the screw between the frame and the front 15 plate; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
