To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS P. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of F airfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Abdomen-Compress and Hose-Supporter; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to combined abdomen compress and hose supporters for use in connection with corsets, and has for its object to properly compress and hold in the abdomen, and with these ends in view my invention consists in certain details of construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and then particularly pointed out in the claims which conclude this description.

In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a front elevation of the metal structure of my improvement, Fig. 2 a similar view showing my improvement equipped with a suitable pad and hose supporters. Fig. 8 a vertical central section of my improvement as it appears when in use on a corset, the latter being illustrated upon a human body as shown in outline.

Similar numbers of reference denote like parts in the several figures of the drawing.

In my application Serial N 0. 35,303 filed on even date herewith I have claimed a structure suspended by an elongated means of support immediately in front of the lower central portion of the hypogastric region of the abdomen, and I do not wish to be understood herein as laying any broad claim to such construction the end aimed at in my present application being to secure by Letters Patent a specific form of construction.

1 is an elongated resilient sheet metal striphaving near the top an opening 2 for attachment to the stud of an ordinary corset clasp. 3 are sheet metal bands secured to the lower end of said strip and diverging upwardly, and a are likewise sheet metal bands secured to the upper portion of said strip and diverging downwardly and secured at their outer ends to the first named bands, so that the two sets of bands form a diamond-like structure. 5 is an ordinary buckle suitably secured to one end of this structure, and 6 is a waist band secured to the other end thereof. The length of the strip 1 is such that when the same is secured in proper position to the stud of the corset the lower bands 8 will depend immediately in front of the lower central portion of the hypogastric region of the abdomen, while the upper bands 4L will depend in front of the upper central portion of said region, and when the waist band is secured at a proper tension around the waist of the wearer, the strip 1 will be bowed outwardly, owing to the upward thrust caused by the tightening of the waist band, the result being that the lower bands 3 will be drawn firmly against the lower portion of the corset, thus pressing the abdomen inwardly and upwardly, while the upper bands 4 will be drawn firmly against the corset so as to press the upper portion of the abdomen inwardly.

The hose supporter webbings 7 are preferably secured to any suitable covering 8 which envelope the lower bands 3, but of course it will be clear that these webbings may be suspended in any suitable manner from said bands since the hose supporters serve merely to steady the device and hold it down by reason of the strain on the stockings.

The upper bands 4 materially assist in confining the abdomen under pressure within certain limits, and the device as a whole is very eflicient and comfortable in that it does not impose any material extra thickness outside the corset.

While I prefer that the strip 1 as well as the bands 3, 4, should be made from thin sheet metal, I would say that the material of which said strip and bands are made might be celluloid, bone, horn, or, in fact, any substance that has the necessary stiffness and resiliency, and I therefore do not wish to be limited in this respect.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combined abdomen compress and hose supporters, comprising an open framelike device composed of stiff spring bands secured together so as to form a polygonal structure, and a thin stiff resilient elongated strip to the ends of which said structure is secured, said strip adapted at its upper end to be secured to the stud of a corset clasp in such manner that the upper and lower parts of said structure will be held in suspension respectively in front of the upper and lower central portions of the hypogastric regions of the abdomen, hose supporters suspended from the lower portion of said structure, and a waist strap and fastening means carried by said structure whereby the latter may be secured at a suitable tension around the waist of the wearer.

2. In a device of the character described, a thin stiff resilient elongated strip adapted at its upper end to be secured to a stud ofa corset fastening, upwardly diverging bands having their inner ends secured to the lower end of said strip, downwardly diverging bands having their inner ends secured to the upper end of said strip whiletheir outer extremities are secured to the outer ends of the first named bands, the hose supporter l5 In testimony whereof I aflix my signature 7 in presence of two witnesses.
