C. P. FITZGERALD LINQERIE CLASP File Feb. 19, 1 924 IN VE N TOR WITNESSES 4 A TTORNE YS Patented Mar. 31, 1925.
UNITED STATES CLARE P. FITZGERALD, OF SCRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
LINGERIE CLASP.
Application filed February 19, 1924. Serial No. 693,885.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAsE P. FITZGERALD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented oer tain new and useful Improvements in Lingerie Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to clasps especially adapted for use in connection with'lin'gerie.
Briefly stated, an important object or this invention is to provide a lingerie clasp having simple means whereby the same may be attached to an outer garment to hold the clasp and the engaged shoulder straps of the lingerie in place.
A further object is to provide a lingerie clasp which is attractive, simple to adjust, and cheap to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a perspective of a pair or the improved lingerie clasps applied;
Fig. 2 is a perspective of one of the improved clasps applied, the outer garment being provided with a small button hole for the reception of the attaching portion of the clasp;
Fig. 8 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 2;
Fig. i is a side elevation illustrating the manner in which the clasp is applied, and
Fig. is a perspective of the clasp equipped with a slightly modified form of attaching the stud.
In the drawing, the numeral 5 generally designates an elongated loop formed from any suitable metal and having its. ends 6 and 7 arranged in overlapping relation to enclose the straps 8 of the lingerie 9. As is well known, the purpose of the clasp is to hold the inner and outer straps of the lingerie in superposed relation so that only one strap on each shoulder is visible.
It happens that lingerie clasps together with the shoulder straps drop part way over the shoulder or otherwise get out of place and to overcome this annoyance I provide the upper side of the loop 5 with an externally threaded stud 10 to extend through a small opening 11 in the outer garment 12.
After the short stud 10 has been extended through the opening 11, the tubular attaching portion 14 of a cap ' 15 is threaded onto the stud to hold the stud in place and conceal the same. The caplo and the interiorly threaded tubular attaching portion 14 need not be very large and in fact may be about the size of an ordinary dress shirt stud. The cap 15 may be suitably ornamented by scroll work or it may be in the form of 'a rosette. More expensive caps may be enameled or provided with precious stones without departing from the spirit of the invention.
As stated above, one of the principal purposes of the invention is to hold the straps and the lingerie clasp in place and it will be seen that the clasps may be applied before the outer garment is placed on the wearer.
The use of a lingerie clasp as illustrated in the drawing necessitates only one very small hole in the outer garment and if desired the stud may be provided with a tapered point 20 to pierce the material of the garment. The stud is so narrow that the material will not be noticeably damaged and if found desirable the stud may be placed through the same opening each time the lingerie clasp is employed.
A lingerie clasp constructed in accordance with this invention may be economically manufactured and placed upon the market and, of course, the clasp may be provided with a variety of finishes to meet the demand of the trade.
It is to be understood that the form of the invention herewith shown and described is to be taken merely as a preferred example of the same and that such minor changes in arrangement and construction of the parts may be made as will remain within the spirit of the invention and the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
l. A lingerie clasp comprising a strap encircling open loop, a threaded stud mounted on the top of the loop and adapted to be extended through an outer garment, and a cap having means to receive and con ceal the stud.
2. A lingerie clasp comprising an open elongated loop adapted to receive lingerie straps and having its ends arranged in overlapping relation, and a short stud mounted on the top of the loop and adapted to be extended through an outer garment to hold the loop and the straps engaged by the loop in position.
8. A lingerie clasp comprising an open elongated loop formed from flat metal and adapted to receive the straps of lingerie, a short threaded stud mounted on the top of the loop and adapted to extend through an outer garment to hold the loop and the straps engaged thereby in place, and a disk shaped cap having an interiorly threaded tubular attaching portion to receive and conceal said stud, the end of the stud being pointed to provide a penetrating member for the outer garment.
4. A lingerie clasp comprising an open elongated loop adapted to receive one or more lingerie straps, a short stud mounted on the top of the loop and being threaded, and a substantially disk shaped cap having an interiorly threaded tubular attaching portion to receive and completely conceal said stud and to co-operate with the stud in attaching the loop to an outer garment whereby to hold the loop and lingerie straps in position.
5. As an article of manufacture, a lingerie clasp and retainer for use by ladies, comprising an elongated open loop formed from flat metal and adapted to receive the shoulder straps of ladies undergarments, the upper side of the loop being flat and provided intermediate the ends thereof with a short stud less in diameter than the width of the metal forming the loop and adapted to extend through a ladys outer garment to hold said shoulder straps in position, and a short tubular cap threaded on said stud and having a small head, adapted to be positioned exteriorly of and close to the outer garment.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
CLARE P. FITZGERALD.
