To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT D. RAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reversible Cuffs, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in reversible-cuffs attached to the sleeves of shirts and similar apparel, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a generally-improved cufi of the class known as the attached sleeve cuff the cuff being reversibly-attached directly to the end of the sleeve in sucha manner as to permit of its reversal as desired so that either side and edge may be exposed and projected, respectively, while being worn. In this way the cuff provides double service and may be worn for about twice the length of time of the ordinary attached cuff or separable cuff, and, at the same time, insures an equally clean exterior by reason of the fact that when one surface and edge has become soiled, the cuff may be reversed and the un soiled surface and edge exposed.

With these ends in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings, forming apart of this specification, Figure 1, is a view of one end of the improved cuff-band with attaching-plaitoriseam formed therewith for reversible-attachment to the end of a sleeve. Fig. 2, a detail perspective view of the extended cuff-band with a portion of the attached sleeve showing manner of attachment and reversal. Fig. 3, a view showingfull cuff exposed and the preferred position when first worn, the dotted lines showing hinged attaching-plait, and sleeve on under side of cuff. The improved reversible-cuff is made up or formed by the usual rectangular cuffband 1, preferably made up of two or more strips or thicknesses of cloth, as shown, one of which is provided with an attaching-strip, fold, or plait 2, extending lengthwise there of, preferably formed by means of a fold or plait formed with one of the strips of cloth as shown most clearly in Figs. 1, and 2, of the drawings, said fold or plait having its sides secured together at its base by The usual button-holes 3, are formed in the ends of the cuff-band, one, two, or three in number, but, preferably the latter and arranged as shown. The attaching-plait or fold 2, is preferably arranged midway of the sides of the cuff-band, as shown, and when the ends of the cud-band are provided with button-holes in alinement with the attaching-plait or fold, the latter is provided with arched recesses or cut away portions 4, to allow for the insertion of the cuff-button. The edge of the sleeve 5, is attached or sewed to the plait or fold 2, preferably by means of a seam 6, except where the edge of the sleeve passes over or across the central button-hole, this point being left unfastened and forms an arch or fold over the button-hole.

It will be observed that the plait or fold 2, forms a hinged attaching-plait or fold midway of the ends of the cuff when the latter is formed by uniting the ends of the cuff-band by means of the usual cuff-button, as shown in Figs. 3, and 4, and that when the cuff-band is opened or extended, as shown in Fig. 2, it may be readily reversed as desired.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.
