To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Gnonen O. BOURNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at 'Worcester, in the county of Worcester and 5 State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful- Combined Grip and Sight for Firearms, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to a combined grip and sight for fire arms.

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of grip attachments for ,fire arms, and to provide a simple and comparatively inexpensive combined gri and sight, designed for use on guns an rifles, especially 12, 14 and 16 gage shot guns, and capable of enablin a fire arm to be securely gripped by the eft hand and firmly held against the shoulder, whereby the recoil of the fire arm may be controlled and more u ate @111 s c 'f iii'ther 'obj ect of the invention is to provlde a device of this character adapted to enable a gun to be quickly sighted and accurately aimed at either a target or at a moving object, and capable of permitting the head of the marksman to be held well up so as to afford a clear view of the object.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and ointed out in the claims hereto Y appended; it eing understood that various 0 anges in the form, propor tion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resortedto without; departing from'the spirit or sacrificing fan of the advantages of the invention.

; Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts inall the figures of the drawwhether or not the sleeve is split at one side at 3, and is provided at o posite sides of the split ortion with latera y projecting upper and ower lugs 4 and 5. The upper lug 4 is rovided with a threaded perforation for tl e reception of a set screw 6, which pierces the lower lug 5. The set screw is adapted to be adjusted to clamp the sleeve tightly on the barrel 2. This construction enables the device to be readily transferred from one gun to another, but the splitting and the lugs may be omitted and the sleeve may be driven on or otherwise rigidly fixed to a gun barrel and constitute a ermanent portion of the gun.

The evice, which is arranged on the barrel adjacent to the fore-portion 7 of the stock of the gun, is provided at the top of the sleeve with a V-sight 8, consisting of a groove formed in a tapering enlargement or projecting portion. The sight, which has oppositely inclined side faces, extends from the rear end of the sleeve to a point about the center of the same, and it is adapted to be used in connection with a front (pin or globe sight, and it will be found a vantageous be equipped with a rear sight, as it w'l enable a gun to be quickly and accurately aimed, while the head of the marksman is in a more elevated position than is possible with an ordinary rear sight. This will afford a clear view of the object aimed at and will enable quick accurate aim to be taken either at a target, or at a moving object, such as a bird on the Wing, clay pigeon, or the like.

The sleeve is provided at the bottom with a rear extension 9, having a concave upper face forming a continuation of the inner face of the bottom of the sleeve to increase the bearing of thesame at the bottom of the gun barrel and to accommodate a depending grip 10. The grip 10, which is substantially ringshaped, is cast or otherwise formed integral with the sleeve, and it is provided at the lower portion with a front arm 11, curved downwardly and forwardly and forming a finger seat 12 and arranged at an angle to the bottom of the ring-shaped body portion of the grip 10 to provide a seat 13. face of the arm 11 is concave, and the out of the body portion of the grip is enlarged at the top at 14 to form an extension of the seat 12, the front edge of the top extended portion 14 of the grip having the same curvature as and constituting a portion of the seat 12.

The opening 15 of the ring-shaped body of the rip 10 1s also designed to receive one of the fingers of the left hand. In grasping the grip the first finger may be conveniently arran ed on the seat 12, while the second finger is p aced in the opening 15, or the first fin er may be placed in the opening of the grip with the second finger in the seat 13. The grip is adapted to be grasped in a variety of ways, and the sleeve is provided at the left hand side with an inclined flange 16, extending- .downwardly and rearwardly and tapered at the bottom and arranged to receive and form-- ing a seat or rest for the thumb. This con-f struction enables the device to be gripped by both the fingers and the thumb, so that a gun i may be hel cure an accurate sight and to control the re-*, coil. This will be foundespecially advantageous in the larger sizes or gages of shot guns. The inclined fiange, which has ai curved outer edge, may be arranged at either side of the sleeve to adapt the device for; either a right or left hand gunner or marks-i man.
