Description
PATENTED MAY 12, 1908.
W. EREILLY.
BOTTLE STOPPER.
APPLICATION FILED .TULYB, 1907.
WB.Re @Zy,
I m fl/t/tomgo WILLIAM B. REILLY, OF LOOMIS, WASHINGTON.
BOTTLE-STOPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 12, 1908.
Application filed July 8, 1907. Serial No. 382,729.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, WiLLLmr B. REILLY, citizen of the United States, residing Loomis, in the county of Okanogan and State of \Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle- Stoppers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has relation-to new and useful improvements in bottle stoppers, and has for its object to provide a bottleor other vessel with simple and economical means whereby the bott pered with or opened without detection.
e cannot be surreptitiously tam- M With this object in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of constructlon, combination and arrangement of parts as Wlll be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the upper end of a bottle constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view; Fig; 3 is a vertical sectional view taken at right angles to Fig. 2 and Fig. 4 is a central sectional view of a slightly modified form of the invention, showing transverse apertures in the bottle neck instead of re- CGSSGS.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents the neck of a bottle or other 3.5 vessel having the usual annular shoulder, 2, and a laterally projecting lug or stud, 3, extending from its outer surface near its outer end.
In carrying out the invention, the outer edge of the bottle neck is notched out at points diametrically opposite to provide diametrically o posite recesses, 4, the purpose of which wil be shown.
the
5 indicates the stopper for closing This mouth of the bottle or other vessel.
at stopper is retained in position by a flexible sealing element, 6, preferably in the form of a wire or cord passed around the neck of the bottle under its shoulder extending across and fitting in the recesses therein, and having its ends twisted together and secured to the neck of the bottle by aseal, 7, which is attached to said neck over said laterally prol jecting lug or stud by cement, or. other equivalent means To open the bottle it will be obvious that it is necessary to break the seal 7 or cut the flexible sealing element, hence the bottle cannot be tampered with or opened surreptitiously without detection.
It is thought from the foregoing descript-ion, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, that the operation and construction of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
I'Iaving described my invention, I claim: A. stoppering device for bottles, embracing a flexible binding member, and a bottle neck having formed laterally thereon an outstanding lug and lateral opposite notches in its upper edge, said binding member being passed around said bottle neck and thence through said notches and applied to said lateral lug, and a seal securing the otherwise free ends of said member in position upon said lateral lu In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
l WILLIAM B. REILLY.
