Description
UNITED STATES PATENT oEEIo No. s1e,12o.
- Specification of Letters Patent.
, Patented March 27, 1906.
Application filed December 9, 1905. Serial No. 291,085.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARRY EUGENE PAYNE, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Woodstock, in the county of Windsor and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle- Stoppers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such'as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. g 1
This invention relates to devices for closing bottles; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section through the upper part of a bottle provided with closing devices according to this' Fig. 2 is a cross-section through invention. the bottleneck and stopper. Fig. 3 is a vertical section similar to Fig. 1, but with the stopper removed.
A is a portion of abottle formed of glass or any other approved material, and B is the neck at the top of the bottle. provided upon one side with a projecting rib C, having a longitudinal groove 0 on the inside. of the neck. This groove extends for the -iull length of the neck, and when not closed by a specially-constructed stopper it forms a communication between the interior of the bottle and the atmosphere.
D is the stopper, which is formed ofcork or any other approved material. The main portion of this stopper is circular in form,
The neck is and it fits in the bottle-neck. has a longitudinal projection d upon one side of i 13;, which fits in the groove 0 of the bottlenec When the bottle-neck is closed by means of the stopper D, no liquid can pass out of the bottle. When the stopper D has been withdrawn and an attempt is made to close the bottle by means of an ordinary round cork, the bottle cannot be stopped tightly, and the liquid can be poured out of it in a small stream.
What I claim is 1. The combination, with a bottle-neck provided with an internal groove extending its full length and communicating with the interior of the bottle, of a stopper which fits the said neck and which is provided upon one This stopper side with a longitudinal projection which fits the interior of the bottle, of a stopper which fits the said neck and which is provided upon one side with a longitudinal projection which fits the said groove.
In testimony whereof I have afifixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses. HARRY EUGENE PAYNE. Witnesses:
