CORN-HUSKER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application iled December 5, 1907.
No. 886,147. Patented April as, 190s.
Serial No. 405,180.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, SAMUEL H. MiNNis, a
l and is then bent upwardly and forwardly citizen of the United States, and a resident of i l above the plane of bar B, the front end of the `hook being pointed.
ln applying the implement to the hand of the operator the palm plate is laid across the palm of the hand with the bent end of the metal bar B between the foreiinger and the thumb and the ends of the straps A2 and A3 are connected at the back of the hand, the lip A7 lying beneath the thumb and the extension A6 projecting over the thumb and forming a protection therefor.
To operate the device take the ear of corn in the hand and grip same, the hook or spur B3 penetrating the husk g a motion out and forwardly and upwardly or downwardly as the case may be sheds husk from the ear.
From the above it will be seen that l produce a simple, cheap and efficient husking implement which can be readily and quickly attached to or detached from the hand, and one which is positive in its action and protects the upper part of the hand and thumb from the action of the corn-husk.
The hook or spur B3 may be made integral with the bar B, or it may be made separate and then attached to said bar.
Carrollton, in the county of Carroll and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corn-Huskers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to corn huskers of that class which are designed to be worn upon the hand during the operation of husking and has for its object to produce a device of the character described which shall be simple in construction, efiicient in its operation and one which can be readily and quickly applied to the hand or removed from the same.
l/Vith these objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction, arrangement and combination of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the-accompanying drawings in which- Figure l is a perspective view showing my improvement as attached to the hand when in use. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same, removed from the hand. Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, A indicates a ilexible member composed of leather or other l claim: flexible material comprising a palm plate A l. A device of the class described comprishaving 'the strap extensions A2 A3 having ing a flexible member consisting of a hand the buckle AL and the tongue holes A5 replate and a side extension for covering the spectively for securing the implement to the thumb, strap extensions for securing the dehand. The palm plate extends upwardly vice to the hand, a rigid bar attached to the and rearwardly and forms an apron for the hand plate and having a curved end extenpalm of the hand, said plate having the side sion secured to one of the strap extensions, extension A which projects over the thumb. the curved portion being below the side exlVhere the thumb joins the hand, the plate tension and adapted to form a rest for the has a cut out space and below this a lip A7 is thumb, and a husking hook or spur extendformed and bent outwardly upon which the ing outwardly and upwardly from said rigid under side of the thumb will rest, the bending bar. being limited by a metal bar B which is 2. A device of the class described comprisriveted to the palm plate and which metal ing a flexible member adapted to be attached bar has one end B bent and riveted to the to the hand,I said member consisting of. a strap extension A3, the lip A7 resting against hand plate having a side extension forming the edge of said bent portion B', the other end an apron for the upper portion of the thumb, B2 of the bar B is securely riveted to the palm a lip bent from said hand plate to form a rest plate, while at about the center of the metal for the lower face of the thumb, and a rigid bar at its rear or inner edge is located the husking bar secured to said hand plate, one husking hook B3 which extends rearwardly end of said bar bent to extend beneath the aforesaid lip of the hand plate, and ahusking to extend under the thumb, and a husking 10 hook or spur projecting upwardly and outhook or spur extending outwardly and upwardly from said rigid bar. wardly from said rigid bar in a line coincident 3. A device of the class described compriswith the longitudinal axis of the hand of the 5 ing a flexible member consisting of a hand wearer.
