Description

I PATENTED MAR. 19, 1907 J. COVERT. I 001m HUSKER. APPLICATION FILE-P JULY 14, 1906.
Elmnwtotz i rm: mamas PETERS co., wnsmiya'ran, n. c.
JOHN COVERT, OF VALPARAISO, INDIANA.
CORN-HUSKER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 19, 1907.
Application filed July 14, 1906. Serial No. 326,291.
To (LU, whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN CovERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Valparaiso, (R. F. D. No. 7,) in the county of Porter and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Corn-Huskers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in implements for husking corn from standing stalks, and consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement .of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive, and efficient means whereby the hand and wrist of a person husking corn will be supported and strengthened, so that this work may be done more expeditiously.
The above and other objects, which will appear as the nature of my invention is better understood, are accomplished by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- The figure is a perspective view of the invention applied to a well-known form of husking-tool.
Referring to the drawings by numeral, 1 denotes my improved husking implement, which comprises a strip or band 2, adapted to surround the arm just above the elbow, a husking-tool .proper, 3, and an adjustable connection 4 between the strap or band 2 and the tool 3. The latter, as shown, comprises a plate 5, havinga hook 6 stamped and bent therefrom, and a strap 7 secured to its outer end. This strap is adapted to surround the hand and is adjustable by means of a buckle 8, which connects its ends. The connecting strap or band 4 is preferably composed of two adjustably-connected sections 9 10, the former being riveted or otherwise secured, as at 11, upon the plate 5 of the husking-tool, and the latter being similarly secured, as shown at 12, to the arm band or strap 2. The strapsections 9 10 are preferably tapered, as
shown, and the adjustable connection between them is efi'ected by providing a buckle 13 upon the small end of the section 10 and a longitudinal series of apertures in the small end of the section 9, the tongue of said buckle being adapted to engage the apertures 14, as clearly shown in the drawings. The arm band or strap 2 is also made adjustable by providing upon one of its ends a buckle and in its other end a series of apertures 16, adapted to be engaged by the tongue of the buckle 15. V
The construction, use, and advantages of the invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. It will be seen that when the strap 2 is adjusted upon the arm just above the elbow and the strap 7 adjusted upon the hand the connectingstrap 4 may be then adjusted, so that a portion of the strain which is usually thrown upon the hand and wrist will be thrown upon the upper arm above the elbow. This construction gives the user greater power and endurance.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a husking-tool comprising a plate having a hook thereon and a and-strap attached thereto, of a strap to engage the arm above the elbow, a buckle for adjusting said strap, a two-part connecting-strap, one section of the latter being atv tached to said armstrap and the other to the tool, and a buckle adjustably connecting the sections of said connecting-strap, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN covERT.
