UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
.TOHN HENEBY LOOK, OF RONDO MIOHIGAN.
HORSESHOE.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. LOCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rondo, in the county of Cheboygan and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Horseshoe; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to improvements in horse shoes, and has for its object to provide an improvement in horseshoes which will enable the same .to be advantageously used in different kinds of weather.
The invention in its broadest scope aims for its object, to provide a shoe with removable toe and heel calks which may be readily placed in position and removed therefrom within a short space of time.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the horseshoe constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken through the toe. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a view taken on line 44 of Fig. 1. Figs. 5, 6 and 7 are perspective'views of modified'forms of the removable calks. Fig. 8 is a detail perspective view of the two pieces of the toe calk, disposed in a position ready to be assembled. Fig. 9 is a sectional view through a portion of the shoe andthe toe oalk, showing the construction as disclosed in Fig. 8.
Referrin to the drawings, 1 designates a horseshoe aving a removable pair of toe calks 2 and 3. The toe oalks 2 and 3 are The heels Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 9, 1907.

are provided with removable calks 4 and 5. It will be seen that the cutting edge of the call; 5, is arranged at right angles to the oalk 4 so that the horse will be held against slipping in any direction.
The toe calk which is in two sections 2 and 3 is provided with a dove-tail tongue and groove connection as shown at c and I), which prevents either of the sections from being ost, that is in case the pin is lost, as will be clearly evident upon examination of the drawings. The pin (Z, is inserted through apertures of the heel of the shoe and the projection h, so as to prevent displacement of the calks, as clearly shown in the drawings. At the base of each projection 71 is a shoulder a, which engages a recess, in the under face of the shoe, the purpose of which, is to reinforce the-calks, as will be clearly apparent.
What is claimed is,
As a new article of manufacture a horseshoe comprising heel and toe calks, said toe calk being composed of two sections, one of said sections having a dove-tailed tongue and the other section a dove-tailed groove adapted to engage each other, said horseshoe having apertures, depressions surrounding the same, shoulders formed on said toe calks for engaging said depressions, and means for engaging said apertures, substantially as and or the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN HENERY LOCK.
