FRANK H. CRUMP, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
EXCESSfBAGGAGE COUPON-CHECK.
Specicationof Letters Patent.
Patented April '7, 1908.
Application filed June 18, 1907. Serial No; 379,579.v
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be itknown that I, FRANK H. ORUMP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and' rovement in Excess-Baggage Cous, of which the following 1s a specisame data on the strap-check, the agent's used, for which stub and the passengers duplicate, as well as to punch simultaneously, through all the parts, certain constant or known data, at a considerable saving of time and labor over various kinds of checks heretofore provided or designed for similar purposes.
The invention will be hereinafter described more specically, and is illustrated 1n the vaccompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is a perspective.view showing the strap-check, the agents stub and passenger's duplicate, and the carbons, turned up or back, to illustrate the manifolding feature. Fig. 3 is an enlarged edge view.
. In the drawings, 6 indicates a strap-checkl preferably made of thin, linen-lined tag board with carbon back so that a pencil pressed hard will make an impression on the agents stub 7 which also has a carbon back and will at the same timev make an impression on the passengers duplicate 8 below. These parts all bear appropriate marks .or printed matter to indicate themonth, excess weight, cash cllected,in`structions etc., and these' marks, or the spaces `corres`ponding thereto, register on the respective parts.
The strap-check remains with .the book or tablet, the stub and duplicate, aswell as additional duplicates, being detachable 'as urpose they are provided with lines of per orations 10 at the top, the parts being stitched together above, as indicated at l1, or other fastening may be used.
Under the check, stub and du licate, above referred to, are a series or booliD of detachable checks 12 cont'ainin printed matter substantially similar to t at described, and also spaces to indicate where the baggage was received and where left, a check being detached for each road over which the baggage passes, the checks being all previously punched with the known data or matter common t all. I
One carbon sheet 13 is placed between the strap-check and the agents stub and another 13a, between the stub and the passengers duplicate, and after the book is punched and the written matter placed thereon the stub and duplicate carbons arel detached, the
original or top check 6 and the checks 12 remaining for use of each road over which the. baggage passes. l
A linen tag board with carbon back and a ents stub of carbon paper may be used in p ace of binding a separate carbon sheet between these parts.
A stiff backing 14 is provided for'the tablet, and it has a fastener 15 which is received through an eyelet 16 in the lower or free end of the top check 6, holding the parts together and inclosing the duplicates, which are 'somewhat shorter than the top check. The
prongs of the fastener are bent up and the` top check turned up out of the way whenever a duplicate is to be detached.
The excess baggage book thus formed is slotte'd at the top, as indicated at 17, to receive the usual strap or attaching cord by which the ordinary destination check is attached.
I claimy 1. An excess baggage check tablet com prising a backing having a succession of superposed checks thereon, and fastened at one end thereto, with a strap-check upon the top of the checks, said checks having registering marks and spaces for punches and data, copying paper between the checks, and a fastening device between the other end of the backing and the strap check, said fastening device being detachable substantially as described.
2. An excess baggage check tablet comprising a backing, a series of similarly printed checks thereon and a similarly printed strapcheck upon the same, the checks being fastened to the backing at one end'thereof, said backing and stra -check being of greater length than the ot er checks and pro'ecting therebeyond at the free end, and a etachable fastening device in connection with the backing for engaging the free end of the strap-check.
FRANK H. ORUMP. Witnesses: THEO. T. WATTERsoN, R. P. FARMS.
