AARON C. GOSMAN, OF ROCHESTER, N'EW YORK.
CHECK.
' Application mea July 2s,
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, AARON C.. GoosMAN, a citizen of the United States residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State ofNew York, have invented new and `useful Improvements in Checks, of' which the following is a specification. This invention relates to improvements in checks and the like and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for preventing the check from being raisedto a'sum higher than that for which the check was made. v
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby a duplicate ofv the check may be made at the same time the original is being filled in.
Still another object ofthe invention is tol provide means whereby the ink used in filling in parts of the check will be so incorporated with the paper that it will be impossible 'to remove it without destroying riarts of the check.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts,
ence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like charactersl denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which;-
Figure 1 is a face View lof one form of the invention. v
Figure 2 is a section thereof. Y I Y Figure 3 is a face view of another form of the invention. l
Figure 4: is a view of the form shown .in Fi ure 3 with the duplicate unfolded."
igure 5 is a detail sectional 'viewL In Figures l and 2, 1 indicates the check which may have the usual printed matter upon its face. An extension 2 is formedat one end thereof, preferably thel right hand end; and this extension is divided into a plurality of rows 3 in any suitable manner and each row contains the numerals l to 9 and zero. These numerals may also be indicated in any desired way, though I prefer to form-said numerals by perforating or embossing them. The lines dividing the rows may also be formed of perforations or by being embossed. I also prefer to en- Specication of Letters Patent. Patented Mal'. 14, 1922.
1919. Serial No.A 318,427.
:close each numeral in a square.. or circle which is formed by embossing or perforatin the paper.
I also prefer to paste a reinforcing strip 4 on the rear face of this extension, though I do not wish to be limited to the use of this strip. '.This strip 4 is for the purpose of A strengthening the extension which has been weakened by the lines and circles thereon.
In using thischeck the check is filled outl as usual 'and then the vsum for which the check is made is vindicated on the extension by tracing the square or circle around the numerals indicating the sum in ink and Y also tracing in ink the lines dividin the rows, which contain the -numerals indicating the sum of the check. For instance, if the check is made for $356, the numeral 3 of the first row is enclosed by the ink, the numeral 5 of the second row and the numeral 6 of the" third row and then the outer lines of these rows 'are traced with ink. It will of course beV understood that the second, third and fourth 'row may be used instead of the first, second and third.
It will thus -be seen that it will be impossible to erase the ink without destroying arts of the check so that it will plainly e Sleen that the check has been tampered wlt .i
These checks maybe secured together at lsionof'the check Vwand, isffolded over: and
pasted as before described.
In this form I also provide a sheet 5 which is adapted to -be'- folded under the =main part l so that when a sheet of carbon paper is placed between the check l and the sheet' a copy of the check will be made on sheet 5 as the check is being filled in.
In this frm I also provide a stub part 5 which is located between the body of the check l and the duplicate 5, this stub having spaces thereon for receiving any remarks desired to bemade in reference to the check. The stub is Separated from the check by the usual perforated line andthe sheet 5 may be separated from its stub 5' by a line of perforations. These stubs may be attached together in book form as in the ordinary manner.
lthe left hand ends in bock form in the usual It is thought from'the foregoing descrip` tion that the advantages and novel features of my invention Will be readily apparent.
I desire it tobe understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided` that such changes fall within the scope of the appended the appended claim I Wish not only to cover i perforated surfaces but also embossed surfaces and surfaces ofintaglio or cameo -ormation. c v Y What I claim is y A check of the class described comprising an extensionat one end thereof, a plurality of v,rows dividing" said extension and each rowv having numerals impressed thereon and perforatedV lines l dividing said. rows, each *numeral` .being -enclosed by a circle pery 'forated inI the'wpaper, a reinforcing strip pasted on-gt-lie rearface yoffsaid extension, the numerals indicating the amount of the check vbeing traced lin ink. y Intestilnony whereof I aflix myv signature.
AARON o. GoosMAN.
