To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, I VILLIAM. SCHREIBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leavenworth, in the county of Leavenworth and State of Kansas, have invented certain 1,

new and useful Improvements in Husking- Tools, of whichthe following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in husking-tools, and my object is to provide a simple device of this character for facilitating the work of stripping husks from ears of corn.

The device is serrated at its outer end so that when properly manipulated. will engage and tear the husk from the ear of corn. It is provided with a strap and buckle so that it may be readily attached to the workmans thumb, and being small and fitting closely against thethumb will not interfere with the fingers when breaking ears of corn. from their stalks.

The device consists of the novel combina- 'tion and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims, and i in order that the invention may be fully understood reference will now be made to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 shows the device in its operative position. of the device. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of same taken on line III-III of Fig. 2.

In said drawing like reference numerals indicate similar parts throughout the several views.

In carrying out the invention I employ a flat metallic blade 1 of sufficient width to present a broadbearing surface to the wearers thumb against which it is adapted to fit longitudinally. Said blade has a hooked forward end 2 extending substantially at right angles thereto and provided with serra tions 3 extending the entire width of said blade for the purpose of engaging the husks and stripping them from the ears of corn.

Blade 1 is provided with a centrally-disposed longitudinal slot 4' and is attached to the thumb by a pair of straps 5 6 the adja- Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view cent ends of which are passed through slot 4 then brought backwardly over the blade andsecured to their respective straps by rivets-7 and S. Said straps taper toward their outer ends, as shown in Fig. 2, strap 6 which is shorter than its companion being provided with a buckle 9 adapted to engage any of the holes 10 in the narrow portion of strap 5. This arrangement permits the de vice to be readily attached to or removed from the wearers thumb, and also renders it adjustable so that it may be applied to thumbs of different thicknesses.

In practice the workman attaches the device to the thumb of his right hand. He then grasps the ear of corn with his left hand and strips the husk from the car by a dextrous movement with the tool, the teeth of which penetrate the husk and tear the latter from the ear.

From the above description it is apparent that I have produced a husking-tool which is simple in construction, may be produced at small cost, and is thoroughly effective for the purpose intended.

Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters- Patent, is

A device of the character described consisting of a broad metallic slotted blade adapted to fit longitudinally against the wearers thumb and provided with a serrated hook extending substantially at right angles thereto, and a pair of straps extending through the slot in said blade to which they are secured, one of said straps having a perforated tapered end. while its companion is provided with a buckle for the reception of the perforated tapered end, substantially as shown and described.
