Description

we es es i intimi l gisten @anni @time FRANKLIN o.y sEX'ToN; or' sHELeYviL-LE, INDIANA. I l 4Letters Patent No. 87,437, dated March 2, 1869. f
IMI-Rovera TANNERS' TABLE.'
The Schedule referred-to rixzifthease Letters Patentand making part of the neme.
To all whom it 'may concern Be it known that I, FRANKLIN C. Sexton, of Shelbyville, in the county of Shelby, and State of Indiana, have invented a n'cw and useful Improvement in lanners Table; and I do hereby declare that the' followingr is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, referencebeing had to the accompanyingdrawings, forming part of this specification.,
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in apparatus used by tanners in dressingr and coloring hides in the process of making leather-,and consists in a sub-table, whose vupper surface is composed of slats placed edgewise, and running either longitudinelly or transversely on a water-tight bed-piece or plank, so that channels will be left for conducting ofi' the water or other liquid, in` saturating and blacking the hide. A
In the accompanying plate of drawings- Figure l represents a top or plan view.
Figure 2 is a vertical section of iig. l, through the line :v as. y
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding part-s.
A is the sub-table.
A is the bed or plank which forms the bottom of the sub-table.
B represents the slats.
The slats B are securely fastened to the bed A', and
placed edgewise thereon, leaving channels or spaces, between, as represented by 1.0.
The ed Af is suirounded by a band o1' projecting.-
tion, so that the liquid will dow-tothe dschzu'ge-aperj ture E, `through the channels O.
It will tev noticed that the slats B are somewhat lshorter than the entire length or breadth of the bed,
used will frequently accumulate on the table, and stain and injure it.
To prevent this, is the object of my invention. 1 therefore raise the hide from the smooth surface of the table on to the sub-table, as above described, so that the liquid will readily pass oli'.
The sub-table Amay be made in separate pieces or sections, as indicated vin the drawing, if desired, and be used either on the ordinary tanners table, or separate from it, as may be 'deemed best.
I do not confine myself to the particular. method shown and described of forming the sub-table. The slats may be placed otherwise; pins or projecting knobs may be used, orthe 'sub-table may have a perforated top, or he grooved, or otherwise constructed, so that the hidewill be raised, for the purposes before mentioned. 4
Having thus described my invention,
I claim Vas new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 'lhesub-table A, or its equivalent, constructed substantially as described, or so that the hide will be raised and the liquid be allowed to pass therefrom, for the purposes set forth. Y 4 FRANKLIN O. SEXTON.
Witnesses:
FRANCIS M. OONNER, Enocn FoUTz.
