Description
F. BREMERMAN. Wagon-Tongue Suppzrt. No. 86,807. Patented Feb. 9,1869.
it-titted FREDRICK BREMERMAN, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA. Letters Patent No. 86,807, dated Febr ua/ry 9, 1869.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Mow-- To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDRIGK BREMERMAN, of Indianapolis, in the county of Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and usefill Improvement in Wagon-Tongue Supports; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description' of the same, reference being bad to the annexed the tongue upon a spring, which, while it sustains the Weight of the former, will permit the requisite play of the parts in accommodating the motion of the tongue and Wagon to inequalities in the road travelled by the latter.
In the annexed drawings--- A is the tongue of the wagon, attached by the bolt B to the front end bf the braces O, in the ordinary manher, so as to allow a free vertical play of the'tongue as the wagon passes over an irregular surface.
The braces are attached to the front axle, in the ordinary manner.
I do not claim that parts mentioned.
A cast-iron frame, D, is formed, as plainly shown in the drawings, and attached to the braces C O, in such there is anything new in the manner as to strengthen and support them against the lateral strain of the tongue.
Upon the rear transverse part -of the frame, is placed an elevated yoke, D, as'shown.
Upon the top of the tongue, behind the bolt, is placed a spring, bearing against the under side of the elevated portion of the yoke D. The form of spring which I prefer is shown at E.
The'spring, as shown, is a bent piece of steel, the form of which is clearly shown in fig. 2.
This spring is bolted, by one end, to the top of the tongue, and the elevated end is carried back, so as to bear upon the under side of the yoke D.
The tension of the spring is sufficient to sustain the weight of the tongue when in its normal position. It, hOWe"6I, \Vlll yield to anyunnsual strain, such as will be occasioned by the wagon passing over irregular surfaces.
\Vhat I claim as' my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, as an improvement upon my patent of December 1, 1868, is-
The spring E and yoke D, respectively, attached to the tongue and braces of a wagon, and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
7 In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FREDRIGK BREMERMAN. Witnesses ELI F. BITTER,
LEA W. MUNHALL.
