Description
UNITED STATES PATENT Carien.
PETER FRENTZ, OF NET ALBANY, INDIANA.
HVlPROVElVi ENT IN WASH-BOILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 86,526. dated February 2, i869.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, PETER IPRENTZ, ot' New Albany, in the county of Floyd, and in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lash-Boilers; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a wash-boiler with a funnel-shaped loose bottom and a top cap, whereby a great saving in fuel and a stronger action of steam and water are obtained.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention a-ppertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, which form a part of this specification, and which represent a side elevation in section of my invention.
A represents a wash-boiler made in any of the known and usual ways, on the bottom of which is placed an inverted funnel, B, of the same circumference as the boiler.
The edges of the funnel-shaped bottom B are notched, as seen in the drawings, so as to allow the water to pass down, and bound with wire, so as to rest on the bottom ofthe boiler A.
From the center of the funnel-shaped bottom B a tube, C, extends a suitable distance upward, which tube at its upper end is provided with a circular ange, D, said ange projecting outward and downward, as shown in the drawing.
On the top of the tube C is placed a cap, E, which corresponds in size and shape with the circular iiange D, and can be raised or lowered from the same at will.
When the boiler is on the re and the water boils, the steam and water will pass up the tube C, and be forced out a regular sheet ot' Water on all sides, between the flange D and cap E.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with a wash-boiler, the .false funnel-shaped bottom B, notched at its outer edges, upright tube C, provided with a iiange, D, at its upper end, and the adjustable but stationary cap E, the whole constructed and operating substantially in the manner and for the purposes specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day ol September, 1868.
PETER FRENTZ.
