. Be it known that we, J OHN CRANDELL, of Ghicopee Falls, Hampden county, State. of Massachusetts,
.and Nn'rnnmr. P. BRAMAN, of Bridgeport, Fairfield county, and State of Connecticut, have invented a in lTack or Carpet-Hamnew. and useful Improvement mers; and We do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, wherein- Figure l is an elevation ofthe device. Figure 2 is a section on line :c :c of iig. l. .Figure 3 is a transverse section on lin'e y y of g. 2 2 The nature of our invention consists in the combination of two ol. more instruments in one form, to be used as a hammer and tack-drawer, and also made hollow,'for.the purpose of carrying tacks or nails, so that a single implement may be made useful for various purposes, and being also made of such a shape that, for economy of space and cheapness of cost, will be a very useful tool, and which may be conveniently carried inJ the pocket, and the recess or hollow space can be used for other useful small tools, such as gimlets, awls, screwdrivers, &c., which implement is also a handle.

b is the spring to keep the lid shut.
The hammer may be constructed of a single casting, either of iron or steel, or the shank A may be of castiron, and the face or poll B and the claw C may be oi' steel,and inserted into the shank in any convenient mechanical way, as we do not confine the invention to any particular method ofconstruction, provided the general `nature of our implement is preserved, and a useful article obtained, either for the household ecpnomy or for the bill-poster. Even the regular mechanic may find it suitable in many cases where-the' cumbersome hammer may incominode his operations.
4We do not claim the hammer with the claw, or a chamber for holding tacks, 86e., as we know such things have been separatelyused but .-What we do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
