Be it known that I, JAMES C. GRIFFIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hasps, of which the following is a specification.
his invention relates to hasps and. consists in certain improvements in the construction thereof as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein A marks the hasp plate. This is of the usual construction, having the perforations the hinge staple B is passed and the slot at through which the securing staple B may be passed. These parts are of the usualconstruction. The hook O is pivotally secured to the plate by means of D. This hook has the usual double construction and is formed of sheet metal. The fin er piece 0 is pressed up between the edges of the hook and the edges of this piece are preferably severed from the body of the hook, forming an opening 0 which opening may be utilized for securing a seal E as indicated. The body of the lip c is between the pivot D and the hook pieces on the end of the hook C so that it may be readily grasped by the fingers and still be in position to sesure a seal as shown.
By pressing the finger piece 0 up from between the edges of thehook as distinguished from the side, material is saved, in as much as the weight is the same as though no finger 1 piece had been struck up. Having it in the center also makes it symmetrical so that it is in proper position with either side of the hook up, and the severed edges also form the opening for a seal wire when the hasp is so used as to make this desirable.
at I claim as new is:
In a hasp the combination with a slotted hasp plate of a hook C pivoted on the plate and having the finger piece a pressed up between the edges of the hook and between the pivot of'the hook and the hooked end, the edges of the piece being severed from the body forming the opening a and forming an opening through the hook immediately back of the ger-piece c.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.

M. O. MORTON.
