JOSEPH BRAUN, 0E ROCHE STER, PENNSYLVANIA.
Lette/rs Patent No. 85,060, dated December 22, 1868; antedcted December 8, 1868. I
Ill/IPROVED APPARATUS FOR CLEANSING CLOTHES.
To allwhom it ma/y concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH BRAUN, of Rochester, vin the countyfof Beaver, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Cleaning and Purifying Clothes; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,l and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. The nature of my invention consists in the use of a metallic-core, provided with very ine perforations, said core, in size and form, corresponding to the'fo'rm of the wearing-apparel the whole being constructed, arran ged, and operating in the manner hereinafter described, for thepurpose of cleaning and purifying wearing-apparel.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use `my invention, I will proceed to describe 'its construction and operation.,
-In the accompanying drawings, which form part of' my specication- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the core used for cleaning coats, vests, Src.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the core used for cleaning pantaloons, drawers, Sie.
. the coat can-be easily removed, and again secured to the body of the core. v
As the construction of the several parts of my improved apparatus will be readily 'seen and understood by 'reference to the accompanying drawings, I will there- E'ore proceed to describe its operation.
In placingithe coat on. the core A', the parts of the sleeves are removed and placed in the sleeves of the coat:V f
'lhe coat is then placed on the core A', and the parts for the sleeves are secured to their place. The coat is then stretched and fitted to the core, and secured to it, and held on it by any suitable means.
I place the pantaloons on the core A, as shown in iig. 2, and secure the upper part of them to the core by means of a gum band, D, or other device. The side-pieces f and theirsprings are usedfor the purpose of keeping the pantaloons stretched on the core, and for adapting the core to the various sizes of pants and drawersy Having the Vcoatand pantaloons secured ontheir cores, as described and represented, I attach the pipes B to a suitable apparatus for supplying the core with steam. I then place the core A over the corevA, with the pipe C placed in the small neck marked X. I then admit steam, through the pipes B, into the core A,
which will pass from itinto the core A', from said cores Athrough the small perforations into the clothing, which will thereby Awash out all dirt, grease, or other matter which may be in or on the clothing.
Steam may be admitted into the cores, through the pipe B, when so desired.
The pipes B and B should be provided with small steam-cocks for the purpose or" regulating the admission 'ot the steam into the cores.
Having thus 'described the nature, construction, and operation of my improvement,
What I claim as ofmy invention, is t The use of a hollow metallic core', the form of which vc'orrespondsto the form of the human body and its
