To all whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, Jones B. GOLDEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at VVolcott, in the county of Lamoille and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Music-Leaf Turners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in music-leaf turners, and more particularly to a simple device of this character which may be readily set upon the usual music-holding ledge of an organ, piano, or the like and used for turning the loose pages or leaves of sheetmusic.

The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will be simple, durable, and comparatively inexpensive in construction and well adapted for the purpose intended.

WVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved music-leaf turner, and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view through the same.

Referring to the drawings by numeral, 1 denotes the base of my improved music-leaf turner, which is in the form of a strip of wood having a beveled bottom to permit it tofit in the usual music-supporting ledge or shelf of an organ, piano, or the like. Projecting verticallyfrom the central portion of the base 1 is a standard 2 ,Which is adapted to bear against the front wall of the piano or organ and to support the central portion of sheet-music placed upon the top of the base 1. This up right or standard 2, which is in the form of a rod, is disposed adjacent to the rear edge of the base 1, and arranged in front of it and in transverse alinement with it is a second shorter standard or upright 3, upon which is mounted a swinging frame 4 for supporting the loose sheet of music which is to be turned by the device. This leaf-carrier or frame 4 is preferably formed from a single piece of heavy wire by bending it into U shape to provide upper and lower horizontal arms 5 and a connecting vertical portion at their outer ends. Their inner ends are bent to form eyes 7, through which the rod or standard 3 extends, so that the frame or carrier 4 can swing upon the same. The upper and lower horizontal arms 5 are crimped or bent, as shown at 9, at points adjacent to their ends, and said crimped portions 9 are connected by bracing wires or rods 10, which have their ends bent or coiled, as shown. The lower ends of each of these connectingwires after being coiled around the lower arm 5 are bent upwardly to form clips 12 to re ceive the lower edge of the loose sheet of music.

The upper end of the outer bracing-wire 10 after being coiled around the upper arm 5 extends upwardly and forms a support 13 for the upper and outer corner of the loose sheet upon the carrier or frame 4. Upon the lower portion of the rod or standard 3 is a coil-spring 14, which has one of its ends secured to the base 1 and its other secured to the lower arm 5 of the frame or carrier 4, so that the latter is actuated in one direction namely, from right to left-to swing the loose sheet of music from one side to the other of the device. This spring actuates the carrier when the latter is released or disengaged from a retaining device 15 provided upon the base 1 adjacent to its right-hand end. This device 15 is in the form of a piece of re silient wire bent to form a coil or loop, which has one of its ends secured in the base 1 and its other end bent to form an upwardly-projecting detent or dog 16 and an outwardly or forwardly projecting finger-piece 17. The detent or dog 16 normally engages the lower arm 5 of the frame or carrier 4 and is swung downwardly out of engagement with the same when the finger-piece 17 is depressed, as may be seen upon reference to Fig. 2. Upon the opposite or left-hand side of the base 1 is provided an upwardly-projecting stop 18, which limits the swinging movement of the frame or carrier 4 in that direction.

The construction, operation, and advantages of the invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. The sheet-music is placed upon the base 1 between the standards or uprights 2 3, and the loose sheet which is to be turned is placed upon the frame or carrier 4 between the wires 10 and the clips 12. When the finger-piece 16 of the spring device 15 is depressed, the coil-spring will swing the frame or carrier 4 from the right to the left side of the device, and thus turn said loose sheet.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is-

1. A music-leaf turner comprising a basebar, transversely-spaced uprights mounted thereon, a loose-leaf carrier comprising an approximately U-shaped member having eyes at its free ends loosely engaging the front upright and adapted to swing thereon, stay-rods connecting the legs of said U- shaped leaf-carrier, one of said stay-rods being extended at its upper end to form a sup port for the front edge of the loose sheet, a spring connected with said leaf-carrier and a spring-actuated detent for operating said leaf-carrier.

2. A music-leaf turner comprising a basebar, transversely-spaced uprights mounted thereon, a loose-leaf carrier comprising an approximately U-shaped member having eyes at its free ends loosely engaging the front upright and adapted to swing thereon, stay-rods connecting the legs of said U- shaped leaf-carrier, the lower ends of said stay-rods being extended and bent to form leaf-retaining clips and a spring-actuated detent mounted on the base-bar in position to engage the free end of said leaf-carrier.
