IMPROVEMENT IN FARM-GATES.-

To all whom it may conce/rn Be it known that I, BYRON SNYDER, of Clinton, of Rock county, in the State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Farm-Gates;i and I hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawings are sufficient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains, to make and use my said Ainvention or im. provements dt-hout further invention or experiment.

v The nature of `n1y invention and improvements consists in the construction and arrangement of an im-- proved fzn-m-gate, which is operated by the employment of the cranks and endless chain or band, below herein described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are made part of this specification, and in which- Fignre l is a perspective view, and

Figure 2 is a Vertical elevation.

The Vgate is supported by hinges ordinarily used for common swing-gates.

K K, the endless chain or band, passing around the pulleys I I, one strand of which is attached to the outer end of the eccentric-lever D, the inner end of which is pivoted to the short lever E, which is rigidly attached to the heel-post B of the gate.

The outer end of the latch-bar F is pivoted to the vibrating end oi` the eccentric-lever I), so that when the endless bandis put in motion, by rotating the pulleys I I in opening the gate, the oblique latch-bar F is drawn backward so as to disengage from the Llatch f, the gate being carried from left to right, and is held open by the self-acting latch g, andv is released there# from in a similar manner,

et a are sliding clasps, rigidly xed to the post A of the gate, and loosely embrace the heel-post B, so that the gate is capable of vertical adjustment, to obviate obstruction by deep snows.

The gate is opened by rotating the cranks 't t from left to'right, and is closed by reversing the operation.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure l by Letters Patent, is;

The rigid lever E, eccentric-lever D, and latch-bar F, in combination with the pulleys I I, cranks t' ft, endless band or chain K K, clasps a, a, gate AA, posts BVG 0'H H, and latches f and g, when constructed substantially as described, .to operate` as specified.
