To whom it ma/ z/ concern Be it known that I, "WILLIAM K. RAIRIGH, of Rural Valley, in the county of Armstrong, and State of Pennsylvania, have, as I believe, invented newiand useful Improvements in the Mechanics Tool called the Hatchet; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the drawings that accompany and form apart of these specifications. y Figure l, View ofthe box holding the various parts Figure 2 presents the body of the implement, to which the handle is attached, with'a portion of the front removed that the interior parts may be seen.

The nature of my invention consists in placing, Within the central portion A of a hatchet, a lock, as in iig. l, and tting the hatchet-blades and other tools for attaching to this by means of the tongues g, as illustrated in the drawings.l

The red dotted lines, iig. l, show how the cold-chisel, fig. 5, may be attached, and the attachment of all the others would be in the same manner.

At the two corners xx are two plane tongues, which t into two corresponding grooves, z z, in the central poition A, and serve to keep the parts in place and aiiord strength. This also is a feature of my invention.

The jaws c' t' are held together by the coil-spring h.

In tig. l, the key is supposed t0 be applied, and the jaws t' thereby opened, from which the tongue g,f1g. 5, has just been removed.

The use of the article represented in'g. 7 gives us; a vise or wrench. Y This attachment alone provides an article of very great utility and convenience, presenting not only a wrench for turning nuts of various sizes, but also a vise for holding many little things that are to be drilled or tiled.

A variety-of'tools iitted to be used in connection with a single handle, and all arranged in a convenient packing-box, Will be of great practical advantage to many persons, not in the mechanics shop merely, but to the farmer especially, who, for many little jobs, would otherwise be obliged to make a journey to a machineshop.

What I claim as of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is v Theimplement herein described, constructed and arranged in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
