CHARLES H. LUSSO, OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN.
CORSET CLASP OR FASTENING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented` Dec. 25, 1 906.
Application led January 2Q, 1906. Serial No, 298,5 73.
To all wlw/1t it www concern,.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES I-I` Lusso, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kalamazoo, in the county of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corset Clasps or Fastenings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in corset clasps or fastenings.
The objects of this invention are, frst, to provide an improved corset-clasp which may be quickly and easily attached to the garment 5 second, to provide an improved corsetclasp which may be attached without cuti ting the fabric of the garment, and, third, to
provide an improved corset-clasp which is very economical to produce and assemble upon or attach to the garment.
Further objects and objects relating to structural details will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.V i
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which` Figure l is a detail view of a structure embodying the features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail section on a line corresponding to line 2 2 of Fig. l g and Fig. 3 is a plan of the fastener member B, the retaining-flanges l) being extended.
In the drawings similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings, A is a corsetsteel, and A represents the body or fabric of the garment. This is folded over the steel and secured by the steel by stitching, as is indicated, or in any other suitable manner. A headed stud a is secured to the steel A and projects throughl the covering A, the same projecting outwardly.
The fastener member B is preferably made of sheet metal with a double longitudinal keyhole-slot therein. The stud a is engaged in the inner end t of this keyhole-slot. The
outer end b is adapted to receive the post 0, on the steel A, the outer end B of the fastener member being the eye portion thereof. The fastener member B is retained upon the stud a by fingers l), which are turned rearwardly under the steel and clamp the fastener thereto. By this means the fastener is rigidly clamped to the steel. By thus securing the fastener' it obviates the necessity of slitting the covering or body A of the garment, as is necessary where the fastener member is Asecured to the steel and projects through the covering. This leaves a complete linished edge for the garment, and the fabric is not weakened by slits or perforations.
The double keyhole-slot described, or slot having a central enlargement 5 and the end portions b b, is preferred, as it is more economical to produce than it would be to provide independent openings for the stud a and the post a.
Another feature of advantage in my invention is that the fastener member B pulls in a direct line upon both edges of the garment. This causes the same to lie flat and largely overcomes the vtendency for one of the steels to twist in relation to the other. Further advantages will readily appear to those skilled in the art to which my invention pertains.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a corset-fastener, the combination of a corset-steel; a fabric covering therefor; a stud arranged through said covering; and a fastener member formed of sheet metal, having a double keyhole-slot through which said stud is arranged, and having a pair of clamping-fingers turned rearwardly under said steel, as specified.
2. In a corset-fastener, the combination of a steel; a headed stud thereon 5 and a fastener member having a double keyhole-slot through which said stud is arranged, and having a pair of clamping-fingers turned rearwardly under said steel, as specified.
3. The combination with the body of a garment, of a steel arranged in the edge thereof and covered thereby; an upwardlyprojecting stud carried by said steel and eX- tending through said body; a fastening member having a slot therein adapted to receive said stud; and a pair of clamping-fingers turned rearwardly under said covered steel for retaining said member upon said stud, as specified.
4. The combination with the body of a garment, of a steel arranged in the edge IOO IIO
thereof and covered thereby; an upwardlyprojecting stud Carried by said steel and eX- tending through said body; a fastening member through which said stud is arranged having clamping-fingers turned rearwardly under said covered steel for retaining it upon said stud, as specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set hand and seal in the presence of two wit- DGSSGS.
