Be it known that I, NAMr KALLI, a subject of the Sultan of Turkey, residing at New Brunswick, in the county of Middlesex and State of New Jersey, haveinvented a new and useful Improvement in Folding Baby-Carriages g and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying Vdrawings and the numerals of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-

This invention relates to an improvement in folding baby-carriages, and particularly to that class in which the carriage may be folded into such close space as to be conveniently carried when traveling or for the purpose of boxing for shipment; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described, and particularly recited in the claim.
The body consists of a bottom 2, 'sides 3 and 4, the sides being hinged to the bottom, so as to fold upward to form a carriagebody or fold downward to inclose the wheels. The back of the carriage is formed in two parts, the lower part 5 being hinged to the rear end of the bottom 2 and connected therewith at each side by links 6, having a long slot 7 with notches 8 and 9, either of which may engage with the stud 10 on the back, so as to hold the back at different points of elevation or permit it to be turned down at a right angle to the bottom and form the bottom of the package when the parts are in a folded position. The upper part 11 of the back is hinged to the part 5 and may be held in line therewith by a turnbutton 12. The upper part of the back is formed from slats 13, which give clearance for the wheels, as will hereinafter appear, and at the sides of the lower part are slots 14 for the same purpose. At the upper part of to the front end of the bottom 2 is a foot-rest comprising a drop 16 and rest 17, the rest being hinged to the drop and adapted to be connected therewith by hooks 18, so as to standl at a right angle thereto. This drop may extend downward from the body or project outwardly in line therewith, in which position it may be held by a sliding bolt 19, secured to the under face of the bottom 2. The axle 20 of the rear wheels 21 is connected to the outer ends of arms 22, which are connected with brackets 23, secured to the under face of the bottom 2 near its forward end, the outer end of the arms near the axle being bowed to form springs 2 4. The arms 22 cross arms 25, to which they are pivoted, the arms 25 being connected together by a rod 26 and pivoted to links 27, which are pivoted to brackets 28, connected to the outer ends of long springs 29, which are secured to the under face of the bottom 2 near the forward end thereof, the outer ends being partially supported by a transverse brace 30.
Pivoted to the outer or forward end of the arms 25 is a frame 31, in the outer ends of which the axle 32 of the front wheels 33 is mounted, the arms 25 being formed with fingers 34, which bear upon the upper edges of the frame 31, so as to limit the upward movement of the frame with respect to the arms. To prevent the downward movement, the axle 32 is connected with the bottom 2 by a chain 35. When the links 27 are thrown forward, the arms 25, being pivoted to the arms 22, hold the arms in an extended position, so that the body or bottom 2 is raised above the wheels, but if the links 27 are turned rearward, as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings, the arms 25 and 22 may fold upward close to the body 2, and when so folded the front wheels 33 may be folded rearward. When thus folded rearward, the sides 3 and 4 are let down so as to inclose the wheels. The back is also disengaged from the notches 8 or 9 and folded downward, the part 5 forming the bottom of the package and standing substantially at a right angle to the bottom 2, while the upper part 11 of the back is folded upward over the wheels and substantially parallel with the bottom 2. The rest 17 is then disengaged from the drop 16 and folded inward and interlocked with the upper end of the back by the hook 38.v As herein shown the drop 16 is provided with a handle 36, by which the folded carriage may be conventhe back is the usual handle-grip 15. either in the open or closed position, a strap 37 is employed, which is engaged with the edges of the sides when they are turned to the proper ositlon.
It will thus be seen that a carriage is provided which can be folded very compactly, so as to be conveniently carried.
I also provide a carriage the back of which inclines as desired so that a child can sit upright or recline.
1. A foldinom baby-carriage comprising a bottom, sides hinged thereto and adapted to be turned upward or downward, a two-part back hinged to said bottom, the u per portion of the back being adapted to e turned into a plane substantially parallel with the under face of the bottom, links connecting the lower ortion of the back with the bottom, whee s connected with the bottom and adapted to be folded upward and rearward 'between the sides when the said sides are turned down, substantially as described.
2. A folding baby-carriage comprising a bottom, two sides hinged thereto, a two-part back hinged at the rear end of said bottom, and links for adjustably supporting the same with relation thereto, a drop secured to the forward end of the bottom, arms connected with. the bottom and supporting the wheels, said arms being adapted to be folded upward and rearward between the said sides when the said sides are turned down, substantially as described.
3. A folding baby-carriage comprising a bottom, sides hinged thereto7 a two-part back hinged to the rear end of the bottom and connected therewith by links whereby it may besupported at various inclinations thereto and folded downward, arms connected with the under face of the body and supporting wheels at their outer ends, said arms adapted to fold upward and rearward, a drop hinged to the forward end of the bottom, and a rest connected with said drop said rest adapted to be connected with the u per portion of the said back whereby the w eels will be inclosed thereby, substantially as described.
4. A folding baby-carriage comprising a bottom, brackets secured near the forward end thereof, and arms connected with said brackets and supporting the rear wheels, springs connected with said bottom and eX- tending rearward from the forward edge thereof, brackets connected with said springs, links connected with said brackets, arms connected with said links and pivoted to the arms extending from the forward brackets, front wheels mounted in a frame and con- 'nected with the forwardly-extending arms and adapted to fold rearward with relation thereto, said arms adapted to fold upward as the said links are turned rearward, sides hinged to said bottom and adapted to fold downward, a two-part back hinged to the rear of said bottom and adapted to fold downward, and the upper portion into a plane parallel with said bottom, a drop and a rest connected at the forward end of the said bottom the upper portion of the back and the rest being adapted to be coupled to Y gether, substantially as described.
