Specification of Letters Patent.
ratented Jury 24, 1906.
Application filed 0ctober 27,1905. Serial No. 284,697.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM FREEMAN, a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in suspenders, and more particularly to improved webbing for suspenders and improved suspender-ends, the object of the invention being to provide a suspender stra or webbing of elast1c material, but made ine astic at its ends in which the buttonholes are located, and rovide improved binding for the edges of tlie suspender-ends in that portion in which the buttonhole is made to take the place of the ordinary binding-tape and greatly strengthen the suspender-end, add to its attractive appearance, and increase the life of the suspender, as my improved binding cannot be torn away from the suspender, but will remain an integral part thereof as long as the suspender lasts.
With these objects in view the invention consists incertain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a rear view of a suspender illustrating my improvements, and Figs. 2 and 3 are enlarged detail views of the suspender-ends.
The suspender- ends 2 and 4 are of woven fabric and are rounded or otherwise shaped at their ends, and an embroidery or other binding stitch 5 is sewed all around the ends and up the side edges of the suspender-ends to take the place of the binding-tape hereto- .fore used for the purpose. This stitching 5 may be of colors to match the colors of the suspender-webbing and results in a stronger, neater, and longer-lived construction than the binding-tape, metal clips, or other devices heretofore used for this purpose and absolutely prevents any exposed raw edges of material, as well as vastly strengthens the buttonhole or Weakest portion of a suspender. All of the buttonhole portions are inelastic, so that they will not receive the stretching and twisting strains, and a suspender is produced which is a vast improvement in the art.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A suspender, comprising crossed straps of elastic woven material with inelastic buttonhole ends, inelastic front suspender-ends having buttonholes therein, and all of said ends stitched around their edges.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM FREEMAN.
