CARL J'. HAZELTON, 0F WORCESTER,
MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO AMERICAN NARROW FABRIC COMPANY, OF I/VORCESTER, D'IASSACI-IUSETTS, A CORPORATION 0F MASSACHUSETTS.
eaRMEivT-surronrnn.
Application led March 14, 1916.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, CARL J. HAznL'roN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Worcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to garment supporters of the class which are used on corsets, waists and like apparel and its principal object is to provide a device of this character in which the lower portion of the supporting fabric may be' embraced between layers of webbing.
I'attain this and other objects of my invention in the device set forth in the following description and accompanying drawings in which like reference characters refer to corresponding parts.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a vertical, longitudinal section of my hose supporter attached to the lower edge of a corset or other garment;
Fig. 2, a side view of the lower portion of the hose supporter before it is attached to its supporting strap;
Fig. 3, a rear View of the buckle, and.
Figs. l and 5, views of a modification.
Referring to Figs. l, 2 and 3, my hose supporter consists of a non-elastic supporting strap 1 which is permanently attached7 preferably by sewing, between the layers a, a of the lower extremity of a corset or other garment. Adjustably mounted on this supporting strap is a buckle having a back plate 2 provided with a top bar 3, a middle bar 4, and a lower bar 5. A lever 6 having a web-gripping edge 7 is pivotally mounted on the top bar 3 sothat its webgripping edge will swing over the middle bar 4L when the buckle is closed. An elastic webbing is folded to form a depending loop 8 which carries a button clasp 9 or any other suitable gripping device. The rearward upper extremity 10 of the loop 8 is attached to the middle bar 4 by the upwardly projecting lip 11 which is pressed toward the bar to securely confine the extremity 10 between the same and the bar. The forward extremity 12 of the loop 8 is securely attached to the lower bar 5 by the` upwardly turned lip 18 which secures this extremity to the lower bar in a like manner. The lower extremity l 0f the supporting Specication of Letters Patent.

the forward extremity 18 to the lower bar 19 by folding the extremity around the lower bar and stitching the same in the form of a terminal loop. Whatever type of buckle is employed, however, it should be so constructed that the upper extremities of elastic webbing may be connected thereto in such a manner that the lower extremity of the supporting strap can be passed through the buckle and be embraced between the layers of the elastic webbing.
Heretofore it has been customary for manufacturers of corsets and similar garments to attach the hose supporter to the garment at the time of making such garment, but as these are not often sold by the retailer for a considerable length of time after such manufacture, the elastic webbing in the hose supporter loses its elasticity and often renders the device defective. It should be noticed that in my invention this disadvantage may be overcome by attaching the non-elastic supporting strap to the corset or other garment at the time the garment is manufactured so that the supporting strap will form a part of the completed garment. This allows the retailer to sell or provide the remaining portion of the hose supporter which contains the elastic webbing and attach the same to the supporting strap at the time of the sale. Further, the consumer may replace the lower part of the hose supporter by a new part when the old part containing the elastic webbing is worn out, While this is one of the principal features of my invention, yet it is to be understood that my complete'hose supporter, including the non-elastic strap, may be sold direct to the garment manufacturers and attached by them to the garment in the same manner as other supporters.
'Furthen the hose supporter may be sold .to
the trade and attached to the garment by the consumer. It should be observed .also that not only the adjustment effected by the buckle is along the non-elastic portion thereby not subjecting the elastic webbing to the wear of the buckle, but also the elastic webbing is in two layers thereby making the device much more eflicient. Since the extremity of the supporting strap is embraced between two layers of webbing it does not produce any discomfort to the wearer and at the same time enhances the appearance of the hose supporter. The arrangement of the non-elastic and elastic webbing set forth herein enables a more Copies of this patent may be obtained for economical, efcient and durableihose supporter to be produced. Y
While the device above described einbodies the preferred -orm of my invention yet thesame is susceptible to such modification as may fairly come within the scope of .the appended claim.
Having now described my invention what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
As a part of a hose supporter a buckle, and a looped running .webbing the adjacent extremities of .which are spaced apart and attached to said buckle, the said ,buckle being provided with an `opening kfor .the passage of frunning .webbing between said attached extremities.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my k.hand this 19th day of February, 1916. Y
CARL J. HAZELTON.
