GARMENT-SUPPORTER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RICHARD T. CLARKE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in garment supporters, such as are adaptable for use as combined suspenders and garters for boys,the object of the invention being to simplify and improve garment supporters of this type and to so construct the same that all strain, both of the suspenders and the garters, will come directly upon the shoulder portion.

A further object is to so construct the device that it shall be comfortable to the wearer.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.

The accompanying drawing is a view of a garment supporter embodying my improvements.

1l represent the shoulder straps which are connected at their rear or back ends by a vertical back strap 2 adapted to occupy a central position at the back of the wearer. The back strap may comprise two pieces of webbing stitched together with the meeting ends of the shoulder strap secured between them, and said back strap depends below the meeting ends of the shoulder strap. To the lower end of this back strap, the upper ends of downwardly and laterally projecting straps 3 are secured and are made of such length as to provide extensions which form garter straps, i,said garter straps being provided with suitable attaching devices 5 for connecting the same with the stockings of the wearer and also with adjusting buckles 13.

The front ends of the two shoulder straps are provided with buckles 6 to effect the adjustable connection therewith of suspender ends 7-8. Each suspender end is provided with a button 9 and similar buttons 10 are located intermediate of the ends of the straps Specification of Letters Patent.

Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Lettors-Patent, is:

1. In a garment supporter, the combination with shoulder straps connected together at the back, and a back-strap depending from the point of attachment of the shoulder straps, of downwardly and laterally extending straps secured at their upper ends to the back strap and forming garter portions at their lower ends, and two suspender ends attached to each shoulder strap, one suspender end of each pair being extended downwardly and crossing the adjacent laterally and downwardly extending strap at the upper end of the garter portion thereof and secured thereto said suspender end extensions forming garter portions.

2. In a. garment supporter, the combination with shoulder straps secured together at the back, and a back strap depending from the point of attachment of the shoulder straps, of downwardly and laterally extending straps secured at their upper ends to the back strap and forming garter portions at their lower ends, two suspender ends attached to each shoulder strap, one suspender end of each pair being extended downwardly and crossing the adjacent laterally and downwardly extending strap at the upper end of the garter portion thereof and secured thereto, said suspender end extensions forming garter portions, and attaching means on the several suspender ends and also on the downwardly andlaterally extending straps at points intermediate the back strap and the garter portions.
