Description

STEWART WELDS J AMESON ()i KANSAS CITY, MlSSOURl.
FOUN'TAlN-FEN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 3, 1906.
Application no! sees 4,1985. Serial No. 281,366.
Too/ll whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, STEWART WELLS J AME- son, a citizen of the United States, residingat Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Pens; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descri tion of the invention, such as will enable 0t ers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon,'which form a part ,of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in fountainens especially adapted for drawin an comprises a threaded plug for attac ment to the font of a penholder and also comprising pivotal points or pens which are hinged on a shou dered portion of the plug and on op osite sides of a central projection thereof an through which ink is fed to the adjacent faces of the pivotal ens. P The invention consists in various details of construction and in combinations and arrangements of arts, which will be hereinafter full describe and then specifically defined in t e appended claims.
1 illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation through my fountain drawin on. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view. 1g. 3 is an enlarged detail view, in side elevation, of one of the steel blades or pens. 4 is an edge view of the blades or pens; and i 5 is an enlarged view in elevation of the pl g, showing the projection havin an elongated aperture therein through whic ink passes to the points of the ens. p Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the font of the fountain-pen, and in the open end thereof a threaded plug B is adapted to be fastened in the manner shown in thedrawings. B designates a shoulder upon said plug and serves as a stop to limit the distance at which the plug may be screwed in said font and the circumference of said shoulder is milled, whereby the plug may be easily adjusted in place in the ont. Projecting from the outer end of the In is an ink feeding and distributing mom e15), having an elongated slot D therein, and upon opposite edges of said member are shou ders d, thus font, a threaded leaving a space through which the ink may pass longitudinally along the edges of said member to be fed to the pivotal blades E, forming the pens Each of said blades E is slightly curved longitudinal] and the inner end 0 each is pivoted at to a shoulder formed u on said plug, one blade u on either side of t e longitudinal opening in the pl'tijfiCblOll of said plu desilgpates a hollow open-ended shell having 1; eads upon its inner circumference near one end thereof, and one end is tapering, as at F", and terminates in a flan e H. Said shell is designed to fit over the t readed circumference of said in and when screwed on the lug toward t e s oulder B the flange H, at t e outer end thereof, is designed to contact with the outer faces of each blade for the purpose of bringin the same toward each otherin adjusting t e oints for drawing different widths oflines. he blades E being of a resilient material willyield as the flange at the contracted end of said shell bears against the outer faces thereof and me be thrown to- Ward each other, and as the s ell is unscrewed the points will resume their normal position. From the foregoin it will be noted that a simple and eificient ountain drawing-pen is afforded whereby the points may be easily and quickly adjusted by the simple manipulation of the shell and affording a pen which may be continually used without reloading r the same, which is usual withfountain-pens commonly in use.
Havin thus fully described my invention, what I e aim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. A fountam drawing-pen, comprisin a plug portion fitted wit iin the same, and having a projection at one end which is provided with an elongated open: ing, blades ivotally mounted upon said plug portion, an a threaded shell fitted over said plug and ada ed to frictionally on age the outer ed as c said hladeaas set fort 2. A ountain drawing-pen, comprising a font, a threaded lug portion fitted therein and provided wit a projection having an elozi ated slot therein, resilient blades pivotal y mounted,,one oneach side of said open- 7 ing, and a shell having a threaded circumferonce adapted to fit over said lug and to frictionally bear against said b ades, as set forth.
3. A fountain drawing-pen, comprising a font, a plug having a threaded circumference IIO fitted within said font, a milled shoulder upon the circumference, a projection at one end of said plug having an elongated opening, shoulders formed upon the opposite edges of said projection, the op osite edges of said rojection intermediate t e shoulders and end thereof being recessed to form an exit-passage for ink, resilient blades pivotally mounted upon said plug opposite to each other and adjacent to the o enings in said projection, and a shell fitte over the plug and blades, and adapted to force the latter toward each other, as set forth.
4. A fountain drawing-pen, comprising a font and a threaded plug portion fitted therein, a projection at one end of said plug and having an elongated opening therein, pivotal resilient blades mounted upon said plu one upon each side of said projection, a shel having threads upon its inner circumference and adapted to fit over the threads of said plug and provided with a contracted end, and a flange about the inner marginal portion of said contracted end, designed to bear against said blades to force the same together, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the resence of two witnesses.
