Description
HENRY MEYER, or RICHMONDQIND'IANA.
Letters Patent No. 82,019, dated September 8, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN STQVI/l-PIPE DRUMS.
ilge Simula mmh tu in ttm@ stlers nmt ant making part si its same.'
IDO ALL WHOM IT MAY ECONCERN:
Be it known that I, HENRY MEYER, ofthe city of Richmond', in the county of Wayne, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement for Heaters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description. l
My invention consists in a novel arrangement of flanges within the chamber of a stove-drum, which, in combination with a damper, divert the rascending currents of heated smoke and air, and cause the same to be delayed, thereby producing an increased radiation of the heat, and a. consequent economy of iire.
l In Figure I- A gives a view of the outer cylinder and drumi The construction of the cylinder is the same as piping for stoves. The top cap of the drum is fastened to the cylinder by means of pinning.
B gives a view of the centre cylinder, extending through 4the drum A, and is constructed as the former.
Torthis is fastened the stove-piping.
C gives a view oi' the bottom cap, having, ou opposite sides, right-angular openings, which lfasten the cap,
when turned on the two pivots stationed in the inside of the outgtylinder A. Thus the drum maybe cleansed ofthe sootvand ash-gatlei-inin the bottom cap.
D gives a view of the damper, stationed in the upper part of the drum, regulated hy means of a rod, passing through the cylinder A and B, and also passing through the damper, constructed of sheetiron, doubled, and
is fastened to the same, as not to revolve around the regulating-rod. n
On the top of said damper is constructed a right-angular flange, fastened to it by means of rivets, the
perpendicular of the right-angle triangle bracing against the inner piping when closed. Said angillariange4 is to regulate the opening and closing of the damper.
In Figure II- t E and E are two paraholcal flanges, the one arm extending to the top, theother to the bottom of the drum. These lparabolical anges are of sheet iron, and are fastened obliquely to the centre pipe B by means of rivets. At the tcp and bottom ot the parabolical flanges is a small perpendicular ange, joining the caps ofthe drum and the parabolical anges, and is constructed like the former.
F and F are small parabolical anges, the upper arms joining the large parabolical flanges, in a distance of nearly one-third the length of the upper arms of said Hanges, the lower arms' extending downward the distance of about Jtwo'ethirds the length from top of the drum, keeping equal distance with the lower arm of the larger anges, and is constructed as the same.
G and Gvare openings, conveying the smoke and heat into the drum. These openings are situated in the centre of the drum, the heat thus passing up thc centre pipe, and the damper'stuated in the upper part of the drum, will be concentrated in said pipe, and be conveyed more regularly over all parts of the heateri The heat entering these openings, is obliquely conveyed down-the pnrabolieal duos F E and F E, throwing a great part of its soot in the bottom cap, C, where, through a combustion, .the soot will be consumed; thence it passes through the opening below the smaller flanges, F and Ff, where it rotates,` and radiates up the parubolicnl ilues, E F and E F', till it reaches the openings H and'H, situated above the damper; frouthence it is permitted 'to escape. l
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The parabolic-al ilues and damper, constructed and arranged in relation to each other and to the casing of :the drum,- substantially as set forth.
l HENRY MEYER.
