Letters Patent N 94,327, dated August 31, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT COOKING-STOVES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lame.
1'0 all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, CHARLES MoGLAIN, of Carlyle, in the county of Clinton, and State of Illinois,
have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cooking-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in Which The figure is a'vertical section of a stove to which my improvement has been attached.
My invention has for its object to improve the construction of cooking-stoves, to adapt them more perfectly for use in burning coal, and more particularly bituminous or soft coal, so as to prevent the smutting of the vessels used in cooking, and to prevent the escape of the'soot and cinders into the room every time a vessel is removed from the stove; and
It consists in the interposition of an extra plate, constructed as hereinaiter more fully described, between the top and body of the stove.
A is the top plate of the stove, which is made in the ordinary manner, except that it is made without a pipe-collar.
B is a supplementary plate, which is cast with an upwardly-projecting flange, 12, around its outer edge,
two inches more or less in height, according to the size of the stove. v
The plate B is also cost with a flue or pipe-collar,
b, of such a length as to extend up through the plate.
A sutficientlyto receive the pipe. The plates A and B are secured to each other, and to the other parts of the stove in the same. manner asthe parts of an ordinary stove are connected together.
By this construction the vessels used in cooking are kept from contact with the flame of the fire, and are thus preserved from being smntt-ed by such contact, while at the same time the cooking can be done with the same facility as though the plate B were not used, the hot air contained in the space between the plates A and B assisting in the process.
Having thus described my invention.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The plate B, cast with a rim or flange, b, and with a flue or long pipe-collar, b, in combination with the top plate A of a cooking-stove, said ,top plate being made without a pipe-collar, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
