APPLICATION FILED DBO.18, 1905.
TEE. fi: TILr. Et
ttozneu srAns Speciflcation of Letters Patent.
' Patented April 17, 1906.
Application filed Deoember 18, 1905. Sorial No. 292,314.
T0 all whor'n it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELMER E. KEPNER, a citizen of the United States, residin at S ringfield, in the county of Lane and tate 0 0re on, have invented certain new and useful m rovements in Pens; and I do declare the ollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains t0 malte and use the same.
This invention relates to Writingpens; and one ofthe princip;l objects of the same is to providea en W ch will hold a uantity of ink at eac dipping and Which W 1 hold the ink against running out or blotting the paper. ,2
Another object is to provide a writing and manifolding or ruling penof sim le construction which will be strong, durale, and efficient and Which can be produced at slight cost.
These and other objecte are attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a en made in accordance with my invention. ig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a.lon gitudinal section. tien on the line 5 5 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 5 is a .similar section onthe line 4 4'of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of my invention, the n11- meral 1 desi nates the shankend of the pen, which ma e of any suitabie contour, pref erably semicircular, to fit an ordinary pen-- hoider.
The numerai 2 designatesthe nibs of the Fig. 4 is a transverse secen, which may be divided by a slit 3. To
orm a 'reservoir for a quantity of ink to be fed to the pen-nibs, the sides of the pen are bent u wardly, formin lips 4L, between Which t e ink is held an permitted to fiow only When the pen is in contact with the paper. The pen may be readily supplied With ink by dipping in an ink-well in the usual manner.
Pens made in accordance with my invention may be formed from various materials and will be found efiicient as a rulingpen, a manifoldingpen, or as a non-shading writ-. inpen of durable construction.
arious changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be ressorted to without departing from the pnn ciple or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I daim as new, and desirato secure by Letters Patent, is
Theherein-described pen having upivardlyextending, outwardly-curved'lips forming a reservoir between them for the ink, said 11 s having an inclined front edge and a siit at t e converging ends of said lips and a reverselgcurved portion to engage a penholder, su stantial y as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence (if two subscribing Witnesses.
ELMER E. KEPNER.
Witnesses:
