Description

No. 817,839. PATENTED APR. 17, 1906. a. L. DURBORAW. AIR PIN, APPLICATION FILED JAN.'16, 1904.-
I EZUC/ILZDZ rinrrnn s'ra'rns Parana ori ron CHARLES L. DURBORAW, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM F. SEIM, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
HAIR-PEN.
Patented April 17, 1906.
To all whom it may conoerm' Be it known that I, CHARLES L. DURBo- RAW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Pins, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in hair-pins.
The object of the invention isto provide a hair-pin that can be readily inserted into or removed from the hair, but of such a construction as to. prevent it from working loose gr falling out after it has been inserted in the Other features of the invention will be fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in the claim. 1
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved hair-pin. Fig. 2 is an edge view of same.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, the hairpin is shown made of a single piece of wire bent to form a head 1 and a neck 2. Below the neck 2 the prongs are bent outwardly and then inwardly, forming an enlarged portion 3. Below the enlarged portion 3 the prongs extend downwardly parallel, forming a contracted crimped portion 4, and then diver e to the shoulder 5, at which point the said prongs converge and'finally terminate in the segment-shaped extremities 6.
When the hair-pin is inserted in the hair, the latter packs into the enlarged portion 3 and also between the contracted crimped portion 1 and prevents the hair-pin from workin loose or falling out.
aving thus described my invention, what I claim is- A hair-pin composed of a single piece of wire having the ends bent to form a head at its upper end, a neck below said head, then bent outwardly and inwardly forming an enlarged portion below said neck, then extending downwardly parallel with each other forming a contracted portion below the enlarged portion, said contracted portion being crimped, then diverging below the said contracted portion for a short distance and then converging and terminating in segmentshaped extremities.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES L. DURBORAW.
