ANIMAL-COMB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 8, 1913.
Application filed April 18, 1910. Serial N 0. 556,103.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHANN DAVID Giir- TINGER, a subject of the Republic of Switzerland, and resident of Zurich, 1, Switzerland, have invented Improvements in an Animal-Comb, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the present invention is a comb. The prongs of the said comb are held in grooves provided in the handle of the comb and are constructed of non-rusting material, as for instance horn, hard rubber, celluloid, tortoise shell or the like.
New and novel of the present invention is that prongs mounted in rows on a straight base are inserted in curved grooves, which said curved grooves are of dove tailed cross sectional area, so that the base of the prongs is held in position without any special attaching means, by means of friction caused between the base of said prongs and the side surfaces of the grooves, while on the other hand the rows of prongs can be easily removed and replaced by rows of prongs, the spaces between which is so chosen so as to fit the growth of the hair to be combed.
Now in order that the invention may be fully and clearly understood, reference is made to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the comb, the prongs being shown in section, and Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation.
The comb plate furnished with the'handle a is provided with two curved grooves a as clearly shown in Fig. 2. These curved grooves a are destined to receive the rows of prongs 6 which latter are inserted from one side of the comb plate. The base of the prongs proper is so constructed so as to fit the dove tailed grooves, and as the base of the prongs proper is constructed in a straight line, they will be firmly held in position without employing any special attaching means. Theprongs when in position are slightly inclined rearwardly toward the comb plate, the prongs b are blunt and of triangular sectional area, and tapered toward their ends. For practical reasons the prongs Z) of the lower row are somewhat shorter than those of the upper row and the teeth of the rows are arranged in staggered relation.
In using a comb as described it is seized by the handle and drawn through the hair to be combed.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A comb comprising a plate having a curved dove-tailed groove arranged transversely thereof, and a straight non-metallic toothed blade slipped longitudinally into 7 said groove and held by friction therein.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
J OI-IANN DAVID GUTTINGER.
