.To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, MAcnANUs B. PEERY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rogers, in the county of Benton and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and useful Coffee-Pot, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to coffee-pots, and especially to that class of coffee-pots wherein the ground coHiee-berries are held in a fabric receptacle or filter.

Itis well known that in coffee-pots wherein the filter fabric is held mechanically by clamping means great difficulty is experienced in securing the fabric so that the weight of the not disengage the filter and precipitate the coffee-grounds into the infusion.

It is an object of my invention to provide a device of the class described wherein the filter cloth or fabric may be quickly and securely clamped in position so as to effectually prevent accidental displacement of the same.

With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim, it being understood thatl changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a coffee-pot constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the filter-tube detached. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the binding-ring. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of a portion of the pot, showing the manner of clamping the filter-cloth in position.

Like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

ln its preferred embodiment my improved coffee-.pot comprises a receptacle 1, having the usual handle 2 and provided with a perforated flange 3 at the bottom thereof. Within tl'fe upper end of the receptacle is disposed the filter-tube 4, the latter being tapered toward the lower open end and provided with an outturned flange 5- at its upper open end. The filter-tube is proportioned for insertion within the upper opening of the receptacle 1 and With the flange 5 resting upon'the upper edge 6 of said receptacle. Within the filtertube 4 is disposed the filter-binding ring 7, having an angularly-disposed biting-flange 8 outturned from its upper open end. The binding-ring 7 may be provided adjacent its lower end with perforations 9, which when the ring is placed within the receptacle extend below the tube 4. A fabric filter material 1() is disposed over the lower open end of the binding-ring and extends upwardly between the binding-ring and the tube, being firmly gripped between the biting-flange S and the tapered sides of the tube 4, as shown. Acover 11 is provided having a tapered flange 12, proportioned to be inserted within the filter-tube 4 and to contact with the flange S of the binding-ring, so as to force the ring Within the tube and expand it. The receptacle 1 is provided with a discharge-spout 13, having its upper extremity 14 extended above the level of the edge 6 of the receptacle.

The operation of my improved coffee-pot isv as follows: The fabric or filter cloth 1() is placed over the lower or reduced open end of the binding ring 7 and drawn upwardly around the ring externally to and above the biting-ange 8. The ring and fabric are then inserted Within the filter-tube 4 and pressed downwardly until the biting-flange clamps the fabric firmly between the fiange and tle tube. The filter-tube containing the filter and binding-ring are then inserted within the top of the receptacle 1 with the apertures 9 extending below the edge of the tube 4 and covered by the fabric 10. Ground coffee may be placed within the ring 7 and upon the fabric 10 and water poured thereover in any desired quantity. The cover 11 being inserted within the filter-tube 4 will contact with the fiange 8 of the ring 7 and expand the ring7 against the tube 4 to more firmly clamp the fabric 10.

From the foregoing it will be obvious that the greater the pressure exerted by the material Within the filter the more firmly will the biting-fiange grip the fabric against the tube, and thereby prevent accidental displacement of the fabric or filter cloth.

Should the binding-ring be carelessly or iiegligently placed within the tube 4, thus iiisecurely binding the filter, the iinplacemeiit of the cover 11 upon the pot will overcome any trouble which might result by forcing the binding-ring firmly to its seat.

the receptacle l7 thus lessening the danger of the liquid being forced out of .the spout by the expansion of air or steam under the filter or from pouring too much Water into the ilter.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is- A pot comprising a receptacle provided with a discharge-spout, a tapered tube proportioned to be inserted in the upper open end of the receptacle and having a flange at its larger end to engage the upper edge of the receptacle, a tapered ring proportioned to slide Within the tube and provided at its larger end Wthan outturned obliquely-disposed flange having its outer periphery formed into a biting edge, and a cover having a flange proportioned to be placed Within the tube and adapted to engage and expand the ring.
