WlNDOW-SASH LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
went-a March 6, 1906.
Application filed March 22, 1965- Sa'rial No. 251,359-
I 0 all whom it may concern.
- Be it known that I, JOSEPH C. FRITCH, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Cleveland, Cuyahoga county, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in l/Vindow-Sash Locks} of which the following is a'specification.
This invention relates to window sash locks, and has for its object to provide a ready and easy means for adjusting and locking the sash in any desired level for ventilation, &c.
The invention consists in the construction and combination. 01" elements comprising such a device, substantially as hereinaiter described, and'pointed out in the claim..
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating this improvement, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of a window frame and sash having the improved sash lock attached. Fig. 2 1s a front face view, on a full-sized scale, of the locking device. Fig. 3 is a vertical ,section of the same. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the locking-lever.
A represents a window-frame, and B ,the. window-sash. O in the several figures is the locking device, consisting of a plate D, havingtwo upright ears or lugs d (Z. This plate is to be fastened'onto the upper corner of the lower sash, as at C, Fig. 1.
E is a thumb-lever fulcrumed on a pintle F, fixed in the ears (1 d. The ears are far enough apart to allow the lever to slip on the pintle for locking and unlocking the lever.
G is a bar having cross-slots g g, into which. tench-point h on the end of lever D engages in looking or holding the sash. Bar G is secured to the upper sash above the lock O, as shown in Fig. 1. In the lever C is provided a set-screw S, adapted to catch on a raised shoulder t on the plate D. This will prevent the slipping of the leverC on its pintle by any means other than manipulating it on the inside by means of the thumb-piece p.
-'The method of operating this device is as follows: The position shown represen s the sash as locked. To unlock them, the operator may, by grasping the thumb-piece, slide the lever C to the right onits pintle, then pressing down on the thumb-piece release the lever fromthe slot g, in which it has been engaged.
It will be seen that the slots 9 g are wide enough to let the lever slide far enough to pass the shoulder t for releasing it from the slot for unlocking the sash. I
It will also be seen that the upper sash may be lowered a short distance and locked to provide safety for ventilation. The lower sash may also be raised in like manner.
Having described my invention, what I claim is- A window-sash lock consisting of a plate having lugs thereon, a pintle fixed in said lugs, a thumb-lever fulcrumed and slidable on said pintle and havinga tenonpoint on the outer end of'an arm thereof, a set-screw adjustable in said lever and a shoulder on said plate adapted to be en aged by said screw; and a bar having slots t erein, each of '70 said slots'being of such length as to permit said lever to be moved longitudinally on said pintle so that set-screw is removed from contact with said shoulder, substantially as described. 7 5
Signed by me at Cleveland, Ohio, this 18th day of March, .1905.
