Description

No. 813,198. PATENTED FEB. 20, 1906.
A. & D. OBLENZA.
BOTTLE CLOSURE.
APPLICATION FILED 00T. 26, 1905.
A WUR/VE YS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARISTODEMO OELENZA AND DOMENICO OELENZA, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BOTTLE-CLOSURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 20, 1906.
To all whom, it may concern;
Be it known that we, ARISTODEMO CELENZA and DOMENICO CELENZA, subjects of the King of Italy, and residents of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Bottle-Closure, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates particularly to improvements in devices for drawing corks from bottles, the object being to provide a cork-drawing device designed to be used in lieu of a corkscrew and connected directly to the cork and by means of which the cork may be readily drawn out without injury or breaking of the cork, thus making it possible to use the cork several times.
We will describe a bottle-closure embodying our invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation showing a bottle-closure embodying our invention, Fig. 2 is a top view thereof. Fig. 3 shows the position of parts when the cork is to be drawn, and Fig. 4 illustrates the position of parts for inserting or removing the drawring.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the neck of a bottle, and 2 a cork or closure therefor. Extended longitudinally through the cork is a metal rod 3, which at the lower end is headed, as indicated at 4, and between the head 4 and the inner end of the cork is a porcelain plate 5, which prevents the rod from being drawn outward through the cork when the cork is to be removed. At the upper end and above the cork the rod 3 terminates in a hook portion 6, designed to engage with a metal loop 7, with which a draw-ring 8 has swinging connection.
Mounted to rotate on the rod 3 and engaging with the outer end of the cork 2 is a locking-plate 9, which for convenience in rotating has its edge serrated, as lainly shown in Fig. 2. At one side the loc Iinglate 9 has a notch 10, which is of sufhcient epth to permit the removal or insertion of the loop 7 when the locking-plate 9 is turned to bring said notch underneath the end of the hook 6.
In Operation after filling and corking the bottle the loop 7 is to be passed into the hook 6, while the notch 10 is underneath the free end of said hook, and then the plate 9 is to be turned so that the free end of the hook will engage thereon, as indicated in the drawings, preventing the loop 7 from accidental detachment. The loop 7 permits the ring 8 to be turned downward upon the end of the bottle and upon the cork, so that the usual cap 11 may be placed over the bottle-neck.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a bottle-closure, a cork, a rod eX- tended through the same and terminating at its outer end in a hook portion, a loop for engaging the said hook portion, a ring having swinging connection with the loop, and a locking-plate mounted to rotate on the rod below the hook.
2. In a bottle-closure, a cork, a rod eX- tended longitudinally through the cork and terminating at its outer end in a hook portion, a locking-plate mounted to rotate on the rod below the hook portion the said plate having a notch at one side, a loop for engaging with the hook portion, and a ring having swinging connection with the loop.
3. In a bottle-closure, a cork, a rod eX- tended longitudinally through the cork and having a head at its inner end, a plate arranged between said head and the inner end of the cork, a hook on the outer end of the rod, a locking-plate mounted to turn on the rod below the hook and having a notch at one side, a loop adapted for removable engagement with said hook when the notch ortion of the plate is turned underneath the flfee end of the hook, and a ring having swinging connection with the loop.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
