IMPROVEMENT IN GHURN.

TO ALL WHOM Ir MAY consume Be it known that I, I. C. GILBE RT, of Galesbnrg, in the county of Knox and in the Stateof Illinois,

have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ohurnsj and I do-hereby declare that the'fotlowing is a full,-elear, and exact description thereof, reference being hndto the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon. l I

In the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification a Figure 1 represents a side view ofmy. improved churn, showing the lidiof the box B, and- Figure 2 represents'a section'of the seine, and v r I Figure 3 represents-a top view of the box. B with the lid removed.

A A represent posts or standards framed into or secured'to suitable base-pieces, and, held together in an upright position by means of the cross-beam or bar F, and the rod D. V

V I The rod D has a nut on one or both'ends, so as to screw up andhold the uprights firmly against the crossbar E, or so that the posts maybetakene part whenever desired. On top of the posts A are secured crossheads,as shown, to the top of which are pivoted buttons, S S. l p

B represents a rectangular box or vessel, provided with journals .0 c, which have their bearings in the cross-heeds,'at the topof the posts ,A A, and are held inplace by means of' thevbuttons S S.'

The box or vessel is provided-with a. lid hinged' thereto, as shown, "and with a metallic screw or stopcock,

' The hinges which fasten the lid to the box re'atta-chedat one end'to the cleats ticrosssnid'lid. At the opposite end of'the cleats which project over the edge or corner of the box B- are suitablemetallic straps,

through whichpassthe screws 71, down into the fear or projection in, -by which said lid is securely fastened down on the box B. The upper edges of "the box Bare provided with tongues x a:, which fit in corresponding .grooves inthe lid ofsaid box, so as to effectually prevent any leakage whatever, .when the lid is held down by means of. t.he screws 71. h. j l H Hinged to the lid of the box B is another 'small lid, 13, which is held down by meansof av wedge-shsiped key, 9, which passes through a. suitable looppand into a no tch'in the side of ,one of the cleats, across the lid of the box 13.

K K represent dashers, perforatedas shown, and -secured,horizontally across the'box B, and projecting inward to near the centre of the box. 7

H represents auadjustable dasher, ma.de so as to slide intothe churn or box B in suitable grooves, and perforated in a similar way with the stationery dnshers K K. I I

The dnshers K K may be made adjnstable,if found'in practice to-be desirable. p

A crank is'secured to the end of one of' the journals 0, by which the churnor box B is revolved, and the cream ormilk churned. i i i It will be seen that the posts A A are braced or supported by suitable metallicbraces, Z Z.
