Be it known that I, HARRY IV. REMICK,21 citizen of the United States, residing at Silverstar, in the county of Madison and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe Thimbles and Clamps; and I. do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in stovepipe-thimbles.

The object of the invention is to provide a combined Stovepipe thimble, collar, and clamp, means being provided whereby the thimble will be securely held in the pipe-hole of the chimney.

A further object is to provide means whereby the collar may be secured to the thimble and a clamping ring or band adjustably secured to the collar, said band being adapted to be clamped onto the stovepipe after the same has been inserted into the collar and thimble, thereby holding said pipe in place.

\Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a vertical sectional view through a chimney, showing the application of the device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the thimble before being inserted into the chimney, showing the collar and clamping-ring arranged on the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same, and Fig. l is an end elevation of the parts as shown in Fig. 3.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes athimble which is adapted to be inserted into the Stovepipe-hole 2 of a chimney In the inner end of the thimble 1 is formed a series of slits 4, whereby when said thimble has been inserted into the stovepipe-hole 2 the inner end of the same may be bent or turned outwardly into engagement with the wall of the chimney-flue, as shown at 5, thereby holding the thimble in place in said pipe-hole.

On the outer end of the thimble l is socured an annular radially-projecting collar 6, having formed on its inner edge a laterallyprojecting annular flange 7, by which the same is adapted to be riveted or otherwise connected to the outer end of the thimble 1.

On the outer face of the collar 6 is arranged an open annular clanming-band 8, the open ends of which are turned outwardly to form parallel laterally-projecting clamping-lugs 9. In the lugs 9 are formed alined apertures to receive a clamping-bolt 10, whereby the same may be drawn together to clamp said band into engagement with the end of a Stovepipe after the same has been inserted into the thimble. In order that the clamping-band 8 may be adjustably secured to the outer face of said collar, so that the same may be clamped into engagement with said pipe, radially-projecting lugs 12 are formed on or secured to said band, said lugs being provided with keyholeslots 13. The slots 13 are adapted to be engaged with headed studs or rivets lat, which are secured to and project from the outer face of the collar 6.

In practice the end of the thimble is slitted to the required distance, said distance being governed by the thickness of the walls of the chimney to which said thimble is to be applied. The thimble is now inserted into the pipehole of said chimney and the slitted end of the thimble turned outwardly into engagement with the adjacent wall of the chimneyflue, thus securely holding the thimble in place with the collar 6 on the opposite end of the same engaging the wall of the chimney. \Vhen said wall is plastered, the collar 6 is adapted to engage and to lie flush with the white coat of said plastered surface, thereby forming a neat and attractive finish for the pipe-hole, the connection of the collar with said thimble holding the former in place. The end of the stovepipe is now inserted into the thimble, after which the ends of the clamping-band are drawn together by the clampingbolt 10, thus clamping the band into engagement with said end of the stovepipe and securing the same in place in said thimble.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A combined stovepipe thimble, collar and clamping device, consisting of a tubular thimble, having its inner end slitted to permit said end to be turned outwardly into engagement with the wall of the chimney-flue, a radially-projecting annular collar secured to the opposite end of said thimble to engage the outer wall of said chimney and provided with projecting headed pins, an annular Stovepipeclamping band provided with slotted lugs to engage the headed pins on the annular collar,

and means for securing said clamping-band to a Stovepipe, substantially as described.

2. A combined stovepipe thimble, collar and clamping device, consisting of a tubular thimble, having its inner end slitted topermit said end to be turned outwardly into engagement with the wall of the chimney-flue, a radially-projecting annular collar secured to the opposite end of said thimble to engage the outer wall of said chimney, an annular open stovepipe clamping band arranged on the outer face of said collar, headed studs or rivets secured to and projecting from the outer face of said collar, radially-projecting lugs secured to said band, said lugs having formed therein keyhole-slots whereby the same and said band are adjustably connected to said headed studs, said band having laterally-projecting apertured lugs formed on the ends thereof, and a clamping-bolt adapted to be passed through said lugs whereby said band may be clamped on the end of a stovepipe, substantially as described.
