Be it known that I, GEORGE FALK, a citizen of the United States, residing at La Crosse, in the county of La Crosse and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Pails, of which the following is a specification.

This invention provides a simple attaching device adapted to be applied to water-pails to support a dipper or-analogous device upon the pail.

The purpose of the attachment is tohold the dipper supported out of the water within the pail, so that the water in the dipper after same has been used for drinking purposes may drip from the dipper into the pail, and thus prevent the dipper from rusting. A

. rusty dipper often makes the water in the drinking-pail impure. Hence the advantage in the provision of the attachment, as above mentioned. I

An essential feature of the invention is to utilize the attachment as an advertising device also, and its function in this capacity will appear more fully hereinafter.

For a full description of .the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire aknowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had tothe following description and accompanying drawings.

While the essential and characteristic fea tures of theinvention are susceptible of modification, still the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the invention to the ordinary drinking-pail. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the attachment alone. Fig. 3 is a view showing the attachment in elevation to illustrate the advertising use thereof. Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional View showing a dipper supported by my attachment.

As shown in the drawings, the invention comprises a rest-bar 1, supporting-arms 2,

and clamp members 3, cooperating with the supporting-arms to hold the attachment in position. I

I In the preferred. contemplation of the invention the attachment as above generally described consists of a single length of springwireof suitable finish bent to form the membets 1, 2, and 3. vIn carrying out the invention the rest-bar 1 is curved upwardly and outwardly intermediate its ends, the-supporting-arms 2 being formed by bending the wire adjacent the rest-bar upwardly. Adjacent the upper ends of the supporting-arms 2 the wire from which the device is made is turned or formed into spring-coils 4, which latter constitute means for holding the clamp members 3 in clamping engagement with the pail. The clamp members 3 extend downwardly from the spring-coils 4E, and the extremities of the clamp members are curved outwardly, as shown at 5', so as to virtually form a flared month by which the engagement of the clamp members with theupper portion of the pail or bucket is facilitated.

As is commonly known, it is a practice with large manufacturing concerns to supply drinking water pails for advertising purposes merely, and in view of the above it is my purpose to provide the attachment with an advertising medium which will increase its usefulness as well as practical value. The adver tising means consist of a plate 6 ,of any desirable configuration dependent upon the whim of the advertiser, which plate is suspended from the rest-bar 1. The plate is provided at its upper portion with an engaging member in the form of a loop 7, which is received by a deflected portion 8, formed in the central portion of the rest-bar 1. The loop 7 when received by the deflected portion 8 of the rest-bar is substantially secured to the restbar and centered in its relative position thereto. Upon the plate 6 it is designed .to place suitable advertising matter, which of course will be in a conspicuous position, so as to be presented to any one drinking fromthe waterreceptacle. Because of the disposition of the advertising-plate 6 same will very readily attract attention.

The advertising-plate 6 not only serves in its advertising capacity, but the upper portion of this plate is curved so as to conform to the curvature of the rest-bar 1. An advantage derived from the foregoing rests in the fact that the plate 6 is adapted to reinforce the rest-bar at a point between its ends and particularly because the plate is connected with the bar 1 about centrally of the latter. Any extraordinary weight upon the rest-bar 1 would cause the plate 6 to reinforce the restbar in a manner which will be clearly seen, the upper portions of the plate contacting with the bar l at points adjacent the loop 7.

The attachment is very simply constructed and may be cheaply manufactured in quantities, at the same time being particularly susceptible of application to any form of waterreceptacle commonly in use.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1.. In an attachment for water-pails and the like, the combination of a rest-bar curved upwardly and outwardly between its ends, supporting-arms extending upwardly from the end portions of the rest-bar, spring clamp members projected from the supporting-arms, the rest-bar being provided with a deflected portion about intermediate its ends, a plate having its upper portion curved to conform about intermediate its ends and co(' perating with the deflected portion of the rest-bar aforesaid to support the plate.

2. An attachment for water-pails comprising a single length of wire curved outwardly and upwardly between its ends to form a restbar, said wire being extended upwardly adjacent the end portions of the rest-bar to form supporting-arms, integral spring-coils formed at the upper ends of the supporting-arms, the eud portions of said wire being extended downwardly from the spring-coils to form clamp members, an advertising-plate having its upper portion curved to conform to the shape of the rest-bar, said curved upper portion being received between the ends of the rest-bar, and an engaging loop projected from the plate and engaging the rest-bar about centrally thereof, the plate being adapted to reinforce and brace the rest-bar between its ends.
