yPATENT OEEICE;
JOHN H.' SHAW, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO SARGENT & COMPANY, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
DOOR-STOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 755,058, dated MarchV 22, 1904. Application led January 16,1904. Serial No. 189,339. (Nomodel.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. SHAW, of the city and county of New Haven, State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Door-Stops, of which the following is afull, clear, and exact description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, which form a part thereof, and in which- Figure l represents a side elevation of a door-stop embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a longitudinal vertical section of the same, the stop being screwed to its shortest position; Fig. 3, a longitudinal horizontal section, the stop being screwed to its elongated position; Fig. 4, a side elevation in detail of the screw on which the stop is mounted; Fig. 5, a side elevation in detail of the bracket to which the screw is attached; and Figs. 6 and 7, side elevations of the door-stop shown in its raised and lowered positions, respectively.
In all figures similar letters of reference represent like parts.
This invention relates to door-stops, and more particularly to that class intended to be pivotally connected to a bracket on the door and swung into various positions, where it is held by va cam-like head on the bracket.
The invention has for its object the production of a novel, simple, and eficient form of stop, having the var ious combinations and improvements set forth and claimed hereinafter.
Referring to the drawings, the. part designated by the letter A represents the bracket adapted to be secured to the Vdoor by screws or other suitable means'.
B is the head of the bracket, to which is pivoted by the pin I) a screw C. The screw is forked at its end to form two plates D, which are adapted to iit on either-side .of the head B. Between the plates D and extending longitudinally into theA body of the screwC is a socket E, having therein a coiled spring F.
G is a ball pressed by the spring F against the head B of the bracket A, as more particularly shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
The forward end of the screw C is provided with external screw-threading, through which extends near its outer end a hole H.
I is a hollow cylindrical casing internally screw-threaded at J to mesh with the external threading on the screw C. The casing IY is provided with a hole K, corresponding when in the position shown in Fig. 3 to the hole H in the screw I.
L is a pinadapted to be inserted through the hole K of the casing I into the hole H of the screw, and when in such position it eX- tends across the interior of the casing I, as shown more particularly in Fig. 3. The pin L when in position permits the casing I to be screwed onto the screw C from the position shown in Fig. 3 into that shown in Fig. 2, but prevents the removal of the casing I from the screw C, because it comes in contact with the internal threading on the casing I when the' latter has reached the position shown in Fig. 3.
M is a rubber tip adapted to rit in the outer end of the casing I. v
As the ball G is yieldingly held in contact with the edge of the head B, it will engage, when in the proper positions, with the notches N on the head. These notches may be arranged at any suitable points on the periphery of the head to hold the stop yieldingly in the desired positions, such as shown in the drawings in Figs. l and 6.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-v v l. In a door-stop, the combination with the bracket adapted to be securedto the door, or other article; of a screw pivotally secured to said bracket; means for yieldingly locking said screw in certain positions with said bracket; a cylindrical casing adapted to be screwed onto said screw; and a pin inserted transversely in said screw and limiting the longitudinal movement of said cylindrical casing in said screw, substantially as described.
2. In a door-stop, the combination with the 'bracket adapted to be secured to the door, or
other article; of a screw pivotally secured to Said bracket; means for yieldingly locking said lesser diameter of the threaded portion ofsaid screw in certain positions with said bracket; casing, substantially as described. 10 a cylindrical easing having internal threading In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my t0 engage said screw, the diameter of the rest hand on the 13th day of January, 1904.
5 of the interior of said casing being greater JOHN H. SHAV.
than the portion having the internal thread- Witnesses: l lng; and a pin inserted transversely 1n sald ROBT. MACARTIIUR, Jr.,
screw, and being of a length greater than the ALICE A. VVILsoN.
