'lio ALL WHOM IrMAY- ooiveiazRN:v
Be it known that I, HOMEB. RIGGS., of the town of Oxford, in the county of New IIa'i/cn, in'the State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements i-n Attaching and Dems-hing Over-Soles to Boots and Shoes;v and the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the'aecorni panying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a boot-foot ywith the over-sole in its place.
4Figure 2 shows the' bottom ofa shoe, with the fixtures secured, and the over-sole oil'.
Figure 3 shows` the over-sole.
The objectof my invention is tovprotect the weer of the shoe-sole, and consists in the arrangementof a toe and rear plate, rmly secured to the bottomofl the shoe, in such `form as to admit of a lift or plate of metal being Sprung in, covering the ball of-the sole, and also taken out when desirable, by any one, without removing any of the fastenin'gs. Y
'lo enable others to make anduse my -improvemenl will-describe it more fully, referring to the drawings.
A toe-piece, A, made of sheet meta-l, cut or pressed-out, in the forni show njn figs. 1 and 2, isjrmly fastened to the bottom'of the sole'at the toe, and also another piece of metal, B, is secured in the saine manner to the sole C, in the hollow of the shoe, leaving the ball D uncovered, as seen in iig. 2, when desired. 'To protect the wear of the leather sole, D, I have taps or platesof steel, E, so shaped thatI the ends, ee, will enter in under the pieces A and B by bending the tap or plate E outward, so as to shorten the distance between the points e e,-
and the sole of thejboot or shoe bent inward', so as to lengthen the space between thereverse points 2id ofthe pieces A and B, thus enabling the wearer to puttheover-soles E in or take them out, at pleasure.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The toe-pieceA and rear plate B, as constructed, and the manner-of inserting the over-sole E and `securing 4it: forwear, so that it can be sprung in or out, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
