Be it known that I, CHARLES F. GOODMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Petersburg, in the county of Menard and State of Illinois, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Stovepipe-Holders; and Ideclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had tothe accompanyingr drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specilication.

The invention relates to means for securing a stovepipe in place in the aperture in the wall; and it consists in the novel construction and combination-of parts as hereinafter set forth.

In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, the letter a, designates a portion of the wall of a chimney having an aperture b for the reception of the end of a smokepipe o. An ordinary collar d is usually employed to cover the outer margin of the aperture and give a finished appearance. Such a collar is generally short and is provided with a collar-flange e. The stovepipe-holder h is a rectangularly-bent metallic strip or plate of elongated flattened form, having the horizontal straight shank portionfand at one end thereof the short straight downward-extending lug portion gat right angles to the shank portion. This lug portion is provided with a perforation lc. The end of the shank portion which is opposite to the end having the lug is provided with a fiat spring hooktongue Z integral therewith, which extends forward about a third of the length of the shank portion and is bent upward in wavelike form, its end projecting above the plane of the surface of the shank portion. In the usual construction the tongue is struck up in the metal of the shank portion and is integral therewith, extending from one end of and then Aupward again at its extremity t, thereby forming a strong reverse curved spring-clamp; Usually the tongue is made slightly tapering from its root to its extremity.

The holder is designed to engage the stovepipe at the end which presents inside the chimney, the marginal portion of this end of said pipe engaging the4 tongue l and extending between the surface of the shank and said tongue, the latter projecting within the stovepipe. The holder is thus held in engagement with the stovepipe by a strong spring clamping-tongue.

The holder, being usually placed on the under side of the pipe end, the pipe is inserted into the pipe-hole in the wall until the lug portion of the holder comes in contact with the face of the wall. Then the holder is secured by driving a small nail through the perforation in said lug portion into the Wall. The collar having been previously placed on the pipe can then be pressed up against the wall and will cover in the lug, so that it is hiddenfrom view.

This simple holder is designed to be eective for the purpose in view. The slot and tongue serve to engage the pipe end securely, and when the parts are in position the pipe will be held firmly in place, so that it is neither liable to slide back out of the aperture in the chimney-wall nor to become pushed inward unduly into the chimney, so as to choke the draft.

The stovepipe-holder consisting of the fiat elongated shank having at one end a perforated lug at right angles with said shank and near the other enda slot anden the opposite side from said lug a reverse-curved integral spring clamp-tongue in said slot extending in the direction of the length of the shank and having its free end projecting above the surface thereof, substantially as specified.
