TO ALL PERSONS T0 WHOM THESE PRESENTS MAY COME:

Be it known that I, GEORGE M. WELLS, of London, of the Kingdom of Great rtain, have invented a, new and useful Improvement in Lasts for Shoes; andrdo hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawings, of whic'hf-A l Figures 1 and?. are side views of the two portions of a, last, made in accordance with my invention.

The last constructed in two sections, viz, theheel and the toe-portion, A,and the instep part, B, is to have e male dove-tail, D, formed in one of the sections, and a. corresponding female dove-tail, E, in the other.

The nature of my present invention consists in combining with the part B, and in one piece with it, or fastened directly to it, so as to project therefrom, as represented, a horn or handle, F, which, when the last may be in a shoe, serves to support the last on .a bench, and is also useful as a. handle, to be grasped in the hand of a. workman in order that he may hold the last while at work on a. shoe placed thereon. Iwould remark that the horn F answers to enable n person to withdraw the instep part B from afshoe or l boot when' necessary to do so.

In another application for a patent recently made by me, I have represented the two parts of the last as d provided with sockets to receive n key` or standard separate therefrom, such being for other and diferent purposes from my present improvement.

What I claim, is, the last as made with the horn F to project from its instep part B, and be connected therewith as specified. i
