Description

*Quinn .taire @anni ffiig FRANCIS N. VIOLET, or FOND DI'I Lac, WISCONSIN.
I I Letters .Patent No. 72,765, dated '.vDecember 31, 1861.
Inrnovsn WINDOW-SASII- SUPPORTBRL To WIIoM IT MAY ooNonRN. p
. Be it known that I, FRANCIS N.VIoLnr, of the city and county of Fond du Lac, State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sashliocks, of that class which is intended to support and also lock the sash of a window at any desired position without cutting a recess or notch in; the frame; and I do hereby i declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference thereon. I v
The nature of my invention consists in constructing twoecams, provided with eogs at one end of each, and serrated edge, and are confined in a case which is held to the sash by two screws, which also hold the cams in their pla-ces, and aspring, which acts upon a prot-uberance onieach cam. The cams are geared into each other,
so that by turning the knob, which is part of one cam, it will also turn the other. The spring is made of'wire, and so constructed as to press both cams alike, that they may hold readily against the side ofthe frame ofthe window. y l
To enableothers skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.- v
I make two cams, t It, Figure 2, with their protuberance gg, and cogs or gears m m. I make one of the cams with a pin or knob, a, which projects through thecase as at d, Figure 1. I proceed by making a wire spring, z', which is made-so as to act upon both cams alike, and is heldin its place by a. recess in the case at p. I also make the case suitable for'the reception ci the cams and spring, and is provided with two screw-holes, e e. which hold the cams in their places, and also hold the whole in the sash, as secu'iu fig. 1.
A represents part ofthe sash. B is the lock, as when in operation; II being part ofthe side of the frame. Fig. 2 shows the look in the inside when altogether, the red lines showing the cams as when turned in the case.
By turning the knob the black lines show the same cams thrown out by 'the pressure of the spring. The easeA is also provided with a. rim, v, which is the depth of the cams, so as to admit of turning freely upon the screws.-
Now, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, Ais- The two camsth, with their cogs or gears m m,in combination with the case and spring, when the whole is constructed and arranged to operate in themanner and for the purpose herein set forth.
