INVENTOR flrgurd flank/7 ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
ARTHUR G. LARKIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TROUSERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 723,614, dated March 24, 1903.
Application filed July 26,1902. $erial1lo. 117 066. (No model.)
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR G. LARKIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. e
The object of this invention is to provide an attachment for the waistband of trousers which will serve to hold the same in proper form at the front and prevent said waistband from drawing together or wrinkling or twisting, afurther object being to providea device of the classdescribed which is particularly designed to prevent the waistband of a pair of trousers from drawing together or buckling between the suspender-buttons at the front.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same reference characters in each of the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a front view of a pair of trousers provided with my improvement, and Fig. 2 a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings forming part of this specification I have shown at a a pair of trousers provided with thehsual waistband 1), composed of a front member I) and a back member b and I have also shown at c the suspender-buttons at one side of the front of the waistband.
In the practice of my invention I place between the separate parts of the waistband, at each side of the front' thereof, a stiffening plate or strip d, preferably composed of thin metal, but which may be-composed of any suitable material, and this plate or strip may be of any desired length and of any desired width, and in the form of construction shown I provide the plates or strips with holes e in the ends thereof, and in practice the threads or other means by which the buttons 0 are held in place are passed through these holes. By this means the plates or strips d are secured in position; but any other means may be employed for securing said plates or strips and preventing the'same from moving about between the separate parts of the waistband.
In the form of construction shown the stiffening plates or strips d are only a little longer than the spaces between the suspenderbuttons; but said stiffening plates or strips may be made of any desired length and may be permanently curved, so as to conform to the circular form of the waistband when the trousers are in use, and many changes in and modifications of the form, construction, or arrangement of said plates or strips may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
By means of my improvement the waistband I) is always held in proper form at the front and will not draw together or crinkle or buckle, but Will always remain in proper position.
Having fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A plate or strip secured -in the waistband of a pair of trousers at both sides of the front thereof and between the suspender-buttons and connected with the buttons whereby the waistband of the trousers is prevented from wrinkling or gathering between the straps of the suspenders, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claimthe foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 23d day of July, 1902. ARTHUR G. LARKIN.
Witnesses:
