Description
UNITA STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 72,324, dated December 17, 1867.
To all whom it may concern: i
.Be it known that I, WILLIAM PAULY, of College Point, Long Island, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a front elevation, of a comb on my improved plan.
My said invention consists in combining, by means of a curved or bow spring, two ladies7 side-combs, so that the two, one on each side, can be applied to the hair at the same time; and as the connection between the two is a spring, which extends over the head, it will readily yield to suit the size of the head, or any variation in the quantity of hair, and, if
desired, the spring extending over the head may be ornamented.
In the accompanying drawing, a a represent the two side-combs, and b the spring-bow which extends from the upper edge of one to the upper edge of the other. This spring-bow bin the drawing is represented as being ornamented, but it may be plain or differently ornamented In the accompanying drawings, the two sidecombs and the connecting bow-spring are represented as being made all of one piece, which is the mode of construction which I prefer, although they may be made separate, and the bow-spring secured to the two side-combs.`
I prefer to make such combs of hard rubber orvulcanite, but they may be made of any other suitable material.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the two side-combs with the spring by which they are connected, substantially as described.
W. PAULY.
