Be it known that I, NATHAN TURNER, of West Lyn-n, in the county of Essex, and State of Massachusetts, have inventedV a new and improved Wardrobe; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use tho same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, formingpart of this specification.
" This invention relates toa new and improved method of constructing wardrobes, whereby the same are easily and at pleasure convertible into a closet or booleease, and whereby the same are more compactly packed for transportatin. v It consists in amovable or swinging arrangement ofthe sides and top and bottom, whereby lthey are folded upon each other, with grooves or strips in or upon the sides to support shelves when used as a closet or book-case, and which shelves may be removed when used as a wardrobe. In the accompanying plate of drawings* Figure 1 represents a front view of my invention.

` A is the swinging top. B is the swinging bottom. C are the swinging sides. is the door. E is the back of thewardrobe. a are the shelves. a the upper shelf, e the lower shelf. F is the strip attached to the shelf a by the hinges G. H are the hinges, by which the side C is secured to the strip S; and upon which the side e turns. y are grooves or strips to support the shelves. To the brick of the wardrobe E are rmly'secured, at both sides, strips S,oi` sudicient devices for strength, and of suiiicient width toal-lowof the shelves a, which are movable, being packed within them. To the strips S are secured, by the hinges H, the sides C, so that they will swing inwardly or towards each other. Said back E has also stripsin Ilike manner firmly secured to themn top and bottom of the same, of sufficient width to contain the sides C when 'folded `together, and the door D, which is also movable. To these last strips are secured, by hinges, the top A and bottom B, so that they will swing inwardly or towards eaeh other. The sides C are provided with grooves or strips in or upon which theV shelves a rest when a closet or a. book-case is required. The door D is hinged upon one of the sides C in such way that it may easily be taken oil". The top shelf a only will be used when a wardrobe is required. To the top shelf a' a strip, F, is attached by hinges G, ou which are pegs or hooks for hanging up clothing. The bottom shelf e is used to break or cover the joint between astrip and the swinging bottom B. The arrangement is such that by moving the shelves a, and folding'back the upper shelf a', and moving the door D and folding in the sides upon-the shelves a, which are placed against the back E, and folding in the top A and the bottom upon the door D, placed upon the sides c, thc whole is made compact and in a shape to be easily moved or transported; also that by movi-ng or putting in the shelves a, the same is easily convertible into a wardrobe, closet, or book-case, at pleasure.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A convertible wardrobe, closet, or book-case, with swinging or folding sides C, and swinging or folding top A, and bottom B, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth. i
