Description

PATENTED FEB. 3, 1903.
G. W. DAVIS.
HOLDER FOR SLEEVE PROTECTORS.
I APPLICATION FILED MAY 12, 1902.
NO MODEL.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GILMER W. DAVIS, OF ST. JOSEPH, MISSOURI.
HOLDER FOR SLEEVE-PROTECTORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 719,650, dated February 3, 1903.
Application filed May 12, 1902. Serial No. 106,988. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LGILMER W. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Holders for Sleeve-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to sleeve-protectors; and it consists in the peculiar and advantageous device hereinafter described and claimed for holdingsleeve-protectors in proper position on the arms of the wearer.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a rear elevation illustrating my improved device in operation-21 e., as holding a pair of sleeve-protectors on the arms of a person. Fig. 2 is an enlarged elevation of the device detached from the sleeve-protectors; and Fig.
- 3 is an enlarged detail view illustrating one of the slides for taking up slack of the cords of the improved device, so as to permit of the device being readily fitted to persons of different sizes.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the several views of the drawings, referring to which- A- A are sleeve-protectors,which may be and preferablyare of the ordinary kind, andB is my improved holding device. The device in the preferred embodiment of the invention comprises keepers 0, preferably staples, clenched or otherwise secured inside the protectors adjacent to the upper ends thereof, hooks b 19, adapted to be readily placed in engagement with and disengaged from the keepers, a cord a, suitably connected at one end to one of the hooks b and having a loop d at its opposite end receiving the eyes of the other hook I), a slide e, connected to the portion of the cord of which the loop d is formed and having eyes f, arranged to receive the main portion of the cord, so as to kink the same after the manner best shown in Fig. 3, a cord g, connected at one end to one hook b and having a loop cl at its opposite end receiving the eyes of the other hook b, a slide e, connected to the end of the looped portion of the cord and having eyes f receiving the main portion of the cord, and a loop h, of leather or other suitable material, fastened on the cord 0 intermediate of the ends thereof and loosely receiving the cord 9. The said loop h, while connecting the intermediate portions of the cords c g, permits free endwise play of the cord g, and hence contributes materially to the comfort of the person wearing the sleeveprotectors and holding device and permits great freedom of movement.
My improved device is connected with the sleeve-protectors by placing the hooks b b in engagement with the eyes or staples a, in the protectors, as shown in Fig. 1.
To put on the sleeve-protectors and holding device, grasp the loop h with the left hand and hold the same with the face side up and the loose cord 9 next to you, then pass right arm between the cords o and g and into protector, pulling it well up on the arm and then doing likewise with left arm, and then lift the loop it over your head into the position shown in Fig. 1. To remove the protectors and holding device, lift the cords 0 off of the shoulders with both thumbs and then take 0E the protectors and holding device after the manner of a coat.
While I prefer to employ the keepers or eyes a. and hooks b b in order to permit of the holding device being applied to and detached from sleeve-protectors with facility, I do not desire to be understood as confining myself to the same, as the cords c g may be detachably or permanently connected to the protectors in any suitable manner Without departing from the scope of my invention.
Notwithstanding its advantages, as pointed out in the foregoing, it will be appreciated that my improved sleeve-protector-holding device is extremely simple and inexpensive and may therefore be sold with profit for a very small price.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
1. The combination of a pair of sleeve-protectors, and means for holding the same in position on a wearer, comprising cords connected at their ends to the upper portions of the protectors, and a connection between the intermediate portions of the cords.
2. The combination of a pair of sleeve-protectors, and means for holding the same in position on a wearer, comprising upper and lower cords connected at their ends to the upper portions of the protectors, and a loop semain portions of the cords, and a connection between the intermediate portions of the cords.
4. The combination of a pair of sleeve-protectors, upper and lower cords connected at their ends to the upper portions of the protectors, and a slide connection between intermediate portions of the cords.
5. As a new article of manufacture, a device for holding a pair of sleeve-protectors on a wearer, comprising upper and lower cords having hooks at one end, and also having loops at their opposite ends, and hooks, the eyes of which are held in said loops, slides connected to the ends of the portions of the cords of which the loops are formed, and having eyes f receiving the main portions of the cords, and a loop secured on one cord and having a loop loosely receiving the other cord.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GILMER W. DAVIS.
